Understand your hunting area and where the coyotes like to look for food. With the snow on the ground this is the perfect time to scout around.
I've found the most action in tight short pine growths where alot of rodents like to hang out. Coyotes will travel across an open field, but they like edges like tree and fence lines....partly because they can run to quick cover, and I think, partly because the grass is often deeper along an edge, and therefore a great place to find a mouse etc.
Pay attention to the wind and understand that a coyote will hunt into the wind, and also circle you if you're calling to find out if you're for real.
Look for a place where you can set up to watch and call, keeping in mind terrain in the area. Having a hunting partner, radios, and a plan really helps. Obviously, agree on fields of fire and watch your back stop.
I've made up permission forms that I take around to local farmers outlining where I'm allowed to hunt, when, what special instructions for land use, etc.
Get out in the fields and learn by doing and paying attention to what you see. You will get good at predicting their behaviours.
Good luck!
