Hi guys,
i plan to try to make some accurate shots on target with a 30.06 rifle. (100-300m)

i haven't purchase any components yet, but probably go with a 160-180gr holow-point type bullets.

i also have the 51th lyman edition but maybe you have any experience/advice about other bullet/ powder/primer associations ?

thanks

The 3006 is one of those cartridges that is super easy to get to shoot.
Most guys are using 150 to 165 grain bullets but the 180 is popular as well.
For super accuracy from the bench I like to shoot Bergers and Match Kings, for offhand accuracy I use Hornday bullets .
4895 and 4350 are good powders for those bullet weights.

Reloading Weatherby on youtube has a great video on powders for 30-06. Just released recently.
Just watched it, if you’re only after velocity(not a bad thing) then it is all good, but he doesn’t talk at all about accuracy in his rifle with those loads! So looks like just numbers punched in the program with numbers spit out. He might get a really different result working loads to those said pressures, case fill etc etc!
Accuracy beats velocity if you get both, then it’s a plus!

True, most of videos focused on velocity and energy (that's make sens for hunting but not for beating paper).

However, jf i understand high velocity in theory, allow to keep a straight trajectory, less drop and so, less dispersion at long range.

Well in theory… but nothing beets accuracy! Lots of long range calibers now have a fairly moderate velocity but uses really high bc bullets because wind is the killer not so much the drop, especially when you know where you are at distances wise! But inside 400m none of that actually really matters other than accuracy. That said, nothing wrong with having everything on your side IF everything lines up that way!

As a general rule, lower powder charges will have less dispersion than higher charges

I believe he specifically speaks to accuracy, just doesn't show groups with each. I haven't tried yet but for 180g class projectiles a few of his top choices were, h4350, n550, IMR 4350, all three of which are well known for accuracy....
