Tips for removing Blueing?

Have a RC Mauser that I'm fixing up and I'm wondering what I should use to remove the blueing from the buttplate? (which was left "in the white" on originals correct?)

Don't want to hurt it, just get the blue off.

Original buttplates were all in the white. And "Naval Jelley" will strip that Russian blue right off.

Soak it in White Vinegar, the same as you use for cooking (Acetic Acid) and then give it a real good rinse with water.
Keep an eye on it when you do it.

Bluing is coloured metal. you can not remove blue without removing metal. Acid, fine beadblasting and emery paper will all do the job. If I were you I would use the latter.

Bye Bye Blue

CLR works wonders. Just soak the part and the blue wipes right off. A green scotchbrite pad wouldn't hurt

Thanks for all the tips! Unfortunately I don't have a bead blaster, I'll try the CLR first and work my way from there.

Leave in a Costco gun safe for a week, the formaldehyde in the matting glue will take the bluing right off...true story.
