So I recently joined my first gun club and they went on about IDPA, I certainly want to get involved in this discipline and wanted to know if anyone could give advice on how to approach it, practice, what firearms and gear to look into and just general info on it.

I shoot IDPA as my club has weekly matches. I shoot to have fun! I run a Glock 19x with a Bladetech holster and double mag pouch. I use my everyday leather belt. I shoot at EESA and the guys and ladies are a blast to shoot with. As long as you have fun and be respectful, you will get along with everyone!

Gear is basic. Plenty of options.

Practice: begin by working on your accuracy. You want to be able to easily group in a 4” circle at 10 yds (IDPA -0 head shot). At the same time, work on nailing that 4” circle with one hand. It’s a challenge, but keep at it. I forget what the IDPA distance limits are for one hand stages, but this 4” @ 10 yds is a great goal for now.

I’ll add more later. I’m about to get in more practice right now. :)

They are a bit dated now (especially given some rule changes), but there are a great series of YouTube videos by Walter Sorrells that do a very good job on this subject.
