I'm not new to shooting or pistols, but did just buy my first M&P9. I've shot the M&P before and liked it so decided to replace my CZ IDPA gun for this one. are there any tricks or tips you can give on the pistol ? I've heard rave reviews as far as reliability and what not , but more info is always good !, thanks and cheers.

They are great guns. I have three M&P pistols. I recommend the Apex competition action enhancement kit, or, if you aren't afraid to spend money the Apex forward set sear and trigger kit. The former smooths the trigger out and lowers the pull to 3.5 - 4 lbs. The latter gives a trigger pull that is darn near as good as a quality 1911 trigger, no take up, crisp break, and almost no over travel. Either is an upgrade that are well worth it IMHO. I have the action enhancement kit in my M&P 9 and the forward set sear and trigger kit in my M&P 40 pro series.

If you find the slide catch sticky when you try to release it, lightly sand or file down the part that makes contact with the slide on the corner so that it is not so angular. It made mine work nice and smooth. See the video below.

I filed the followers and found ti didn't make much difference. I also cut 1 round off the bottom of the spring and it's all good now.

Watched the video and while inserting the magazine into the M&P 9 (brand new pistol) is no problem, getting that 10th round into the mag is
definitely a bear. So I took one coil off the spring (nothing else) and it's much better. Thanks for the link.

For competition use, if you've blacked out the rear already, get the Truglo FO fronts or the Meprolite version which also has tritium for low light use. Remember the FO sights need a minimum light source so, in complete darkness, they are useless.
The M&P isn't a target gun so don't worry about target style adjustable sights.
There's no competition around here, all I get to do is punch paper. So instead of buying a more accurate 9 and all the gear that goes with it, I may as well tweak this one. I was thinking that with an adjustable rear sight and a wider front blade I could improve the accuracy. Something like the target sight picture in the dawson sights. Do you have perfect eyesight? I have poor close range vision so I need corrective lenses to actually pick up my sights. Real pain with scopes too! My handgun sights are always fuzzy regardless of what kind I have. I'm always looking for something I can see clearly without corrective lenses.
I don't even know if the ones I'm thinking about exist for the M&P but the undercut front sights like the older S&W target sights on the K frame revolvers are really good for target shooting as the undercut on the sight deflects light so the front sight is very clear. They don't make a good choice for holster use as they may snag leather during the draw, Kydex, not so much.
If your M&P is only for target use and you want the blacked out front sight, see if anyone here has info on the undercut ones ( maybe S&W themselves can help?) Good luck Brian!
