Tips re getting leading deposits out of .45 barrel

Make up a batch of Ed's Red Bore Cleaner. It is inexpensive and works well for removing lead out of barrels. You can find the recipe on the internet or even on Gun Nutz. Good luck.

Get an old .45 jag. Buy some brass "Chor Boy" pan scrubbers. Unwind the chor boy then wrap it abound the jag. You can use a patch or a piece of kitchen roll on the jag first to help the brass chor boy to stay put.

Scrub the barrel without any solvents, Try scrubbing while holding the barrel over some white paper. You will be surprised how much lead comes out.

Thereafter clean like normal.

I bought my .357 used and it was heavily leaded (mostly .38sp through it I guess). I used Outers Nitro Solvent and a bronze bore brush and did ALOT of scrubbing. I was surprized when I got it sparkling clean.

I second that. Very effective.

There's lots of ways of cleaning the lead out, but more importantly, ways to prevent it in the first place.....or just keep doin' what your doin'.

a lot of guys load 1/7 jacketed or 1/10 jacketed for that very purpose- the last round in the mag is a jacket- to "clear" the barrel

KLEEN-BORE "LEAD AWAY PATCHES" remove lead quite easily. Wholesale Sports lists them for $3.99 a package. Any of the Sponsors that handle Kleen Bore should have it.

Lead deposits in my .45 used to drive me crazy when cleaning! So much so that I have stopped using lead and shoot strictly FMJ. What I did find out worked amazing and didn't cost much was to dip the barrel in a 50/50 solution of hydrogen peroxide and white vinegar for 5-10 minutes. The barrel would clean instantly with normal methods after this. Before I tried this I would be cleaning for over an hour and still have deposits left. This method makes your barrel spotless. Some say it is bad for blued barrels but I don't have one. Dipping for 5-10 minutes wouldn't harm a blued barrel in my opinion.

I do the same thing, plug the muzzle fill with solution and wait 10 minutes. The lead is oxidized and can be removed without any scrubbing.

I was inboxed with a question on the hydrogen peroxide. The 50/50 solution is done with the drug store 3% solution of the hydrogen peroxide not the 35% solution you can find at some places.

Hoppe's Bench Rest 9 Copper Solvent

Eliminate copper residue quickly

Copper fouling, the bane of bench rest shooters and hunters, doesn't have to be a problem any longer - thanks to Hoppe's Bench Rest 9.

With this powerful solvent, copper fouling can be cleaned from the bore overnight, instead of taking the standard 3 to 4 days. Bench Rest 9 is safe and effective and contains no abrasives. Although the solvent is essentially a copper buster, it's also great for removing powder, lead and plastic fouling from rifles, shotguns, pistols and revolvers.

hydrogen peroxide and vinegar work good if ONLY you got a stainless barrel. I tried it with my 45 comp and it ate the blueing off.
