Get an old .45 jag. Buy some brass "Chor Boy" pan scrubbers. Unwind the chor boy then wrap it abound the jag. You can use a patch or a piece of kitchen roll on the jag first to help the brass chor boy to stay put.
Scrub the barrel without any solvents, Try scrubbing while holding the barrel over some white paper. You will be surprised how much lead comes out.
Thereafter clean like normal.

Lead deposits in my .45 used to drive me crazy when cleaning! So much so that I have stopped using lead and shoot strictly FMJ. What I did find out worked amazing and didn't cost much was to dip the barrel in a 50/50 solution of hydrogen peroxide and white vinegar for 5-10 minutes. The barrel would clean instantly with normal methods after this. Before I tried this I would be cleaning for over an hour and still have deposits left. This method makes your barrel spotless. Some say it is bad for blued barrels but I don't have one. Dipping for 5-10 minutes wouldn't harm a blued barrel in my opinion.

Eliminate copper residue quickly
Copper fouling, the bane of bench rest shooters and hunters, doesn't have to be a problem any longer - thanks to Hoppe's Bench Rest 9.
With this powerful solvent, copper fouling can be cleaned from the bore overnight, instead of taking the standard 3 to 4 days. Bench Rest 9 is safe and effective and contains no abrasives. Although the solvent is essentially a copper buster, it's also great for removing powder, lead and plastic fouling from rifles, shotguns, pistols and revolvers.
