Tips, trick and advice for 1st time hunter ? (crow)

You should use some type of crow call. With a mouth call since you are new to it you may bring them in more than one time, but they learn the game fast. Use a shotgun. A good time of the day to call them is at first light but you will educate all of them in that bush. The night hunt works best for a roosting bush as they come into the roost at different times. During mid day they are a bit lazy. We use a old dual speaker cassette player and two Johnny Stewart tapes, the owl crow fight and after they do not want to come back we play the dieing crow call. This will bring them back for a couple more runs and more if you shot a few. If you hunt a tall hardwood bush they will stay well above those trees and if they land in the trees you will have a hard time finding them because of the leaves. A cedar bush works best for cover and closer shootin but it has less open shooting area. We make our 30-40 mile circuit once a week, to often and you waste your time. So far this year we are at 325 with the best shoot at a evening roost when we shot 46 and ran out of shells. Great found and wing shooting during the off season.

Get a tape or other recording of crows in distress or fighting owls. Play it in a ghetto blaster out in the field - you won't believe how it attracts them. Shotgun, lots of ammo, and hide yourself VERY well. Leave the bodies lying around.
