We've had several of these wee buggers spotted about in our community and lots of wOOmen are quite concerned what us men are going to do about it ... what do you think is the best Tiriaq(weasal)defense weapon? Post your opinions, thoughts and comments along with any photo's of captured/shot Tiriaqs(weasals) you may have got due to your choice of weapon ... :D:p;)

Last one I caught, I jumped in the water, grabbed the bastard by the tail, put him in a bucket, closed the lid and then dumped out in the lake about a quarter mile off shore of an unihabited island. Other than trapping it, a .410 should work. :D

As the resident tiriaq on this board, I'm not sure that I care for the direction that this thread is taking. I'm getting a little nervous.

I have them around the house occasionally. See the tracks more often than the tiriaq itself. I have photos of one I took from the kitchen window. It was eating the suet that I put out for the birds. The suet feeder is near the sunflower seed feeder. A red squirrel wanted sunflower seeds. He approached the tiriaq, and kept bothering him, nipping at his tail. I was sure that it was going to end badly for the squirrel. But the tiriaq left, the squirrel triumphed. I'll see if I can find the photo and post it.

I was going to say that I rather think CGN's tiriaq is a pretty good guy, so I was initially a little confused...

Back in the 70's, when I was in college, I had a trapline north of Cochrane, Ontario that I worked on weekends. Base camp was a 12x14 prospectors tent, with log walls and a good wood stove.

All winter, I had a weasel, and a marten, that would come right into the tent looking for handouts. Always had lots of beaver carcasses arround for them. They were really cute little buggers, and they got very bold.

No problems with mice that winter

Well I will have to go to the closest political office and try to catch one with the camera in its native habitat

It is more elegant if the inuktitut word tiriaq is translated as "ermine".

Beats "rodent" I suppose.

By the title of this thread, I thought that some of our numerous young, impulsive and naĂŻve gunnuts had been piling on our sage and sensible tiriaq, and I was all ready to dig in and go on the offensive.

Something in 410 or 22LR would be fine I suppose.

My choice of weasel-defense weapon is an unregistered, unlicensed, cat.

Deadly, reliable, and still legal, even here.

We tend to leave the little buggers alone, as I prefer their company to the company of squirrels and mice in our cabin.

Leave a trail of Ross Mark 1 2 and 3 parts lying out and he'll follow them into whatever trap you lay, especially if baited with a pristine milsurp stock with battalion markings off a Mark III....
