A few comments were made about making a Titanium rifle heavier... but it is what the owner wanted for better accuracy... and it has worked well.

Today I received an update from the owner on how it shoots...

"Lots of 3/8 " groups, well balanced, really crisp trigger, on a bet shot a crow standing on a rock at a ranged 423 yards. 2 hours later (double or nothing) same rock another crow did it again."

Then he shot this bear (25 inches B & C) at 91 yards one shot anchored in his tracks. (He did not say what bullet)

I feel just as happy... :D

heckuva rifle....nothing wrong with adding weight...everyone has a different "target weight" on a rifle build....obviously he knew what he wanted, and he got it.

might be a bit muzzle heavy but's that not a bad thing in my books...better than butt heavy..one of the best fitting & handling rifles I've ever owned was a slightly muzzle heavy 700 in the plain vanilla 7 Rem Mag,..a truly under rated cartridge if there ever was one....looks like it works from crows to bears....and of course, one of Ted's barrels is never a mistake.

What rate of twist my be used for a 7mm rem mag using a gaillard barrel. If necessary I will cancel the STW and go with the rem mag. That gun is very imressive.

How did you make the 7mm Mag in a Ti? Did you change the bolt face on a 270 or 30-06 or rechamber and rework a 7mm SAUM?

Either way worked for your guy, but kind of defeats the purpose of using the more expensive Ti action.

I removed the factory 7mm Rem Mag barrel that came on it. Since he already had the rifle and it was not shooting as well as he wanted, a quality rebarrel and working over was money well spent. I do not know what the purpose of the Ti action is other than it is an action lighter than steel and is made more accurately. To me accuracy is most important.

The barrels on either the older Titanium or the new Alaskan Ti are junk. Too light and too much whip. Groupings are much too wild.

I had to rebarrel my Titanium with a slightly heavier contour just to be able to shoot a reasonable grouping. The factory barrel was turning out 6" groupings at 100.

My buddy had the same problem with the Alaskan Ti. Played with bedding, shimming, etc. Had to rebarrel.

Sorry about that, I forgot about the new Ti.

It seemed a weird creation for Remington to change, take a super light rifle with almost no compeitors, add weight and make it far more expensive.

The new one is just a normal semi-light rifle.

I have an original Ti in 7mm SAUM(so it's not the superlight version), bought it from Rembo and CCcan bedded it and it shoots bugholes with 150 gr Nosler Etips. I like shooting light rifles and find I shoot them far more accurately offhand than I do heavier ones. FWIW, I also had a Kimber 84m for a few years.

weird. Ive owned two Ti's (Original generation) and they shot excelletn with the right ammo. 168 gr Barnes TSX in the 30-06, or 130 gr Accubonds/140gr Interlocks in the 260, will do 1" or less for 3 shots just about every time.

Nice to know that someone had good luck with the Titaniums. I wish I had that luck. I like the concept of the titanium receiver, but so far, I am not impressed with Remington's choice of barrels on their lightweights.

I rebarreled my original Ti 7-08 just because I could....the factory barrel shot right around an inch.

To shoot 6" at 100 yards that barrel must have been a real loser...

I did rebarrel another original Ti in 308 for another guy...his factory barrel wouldn't get much better than 1-1/2" IIRC.....a King tube with a slightly heavier contour at 23" shoots maybe 3/4" on a bad day....also depends on how many double doubles the shooter had on the way to the range....;)
