Tite Group with LSWC 200 gr

What velocity can I expect from a 5" 1911 using 4.5 grs of Tite Group with hard cast 200 gr LSWC's?

In a 2010 "Handloader" magazine article, the author got 870-880 fps, depending on bullet make.

hodgdon's website says 877 for 4.8gr's with a 200gr LSWC using tightgroup with a 5" barrel so it's in the ball park.

curious as to why it matters?

That velocity looks high.

For accuracy I load 4.3 gr of TG 785 fps

For power I load 5.0 gr of TG 890 fps

5" barrels

4.9gr TG get me 875fps with a 200 SWC in my Les Baer.If you do any reloading you really need a chronograph to get an idea what your load is doing as guns,powder lots,primers etc etc contribute so many variables

Sold my chrono as I never used it much. I tend to take the manuals at their word.

I need a Power Factor of 170 to make IPSC "Major". That means a 200 gr bullet at 850 fps. A 230 needs only 750 fps but I find the 200 gr easier to control for double taps.

For PF I don't think 4.5 is enough.

Yeah, looks like 4.8/4.9 is going to be minimum with Tite Group. That will likely give me a comfortable margin.

Not a semi, but some more info:
I shoot revolver in IPSC with a 625 5" but with a 230 gr RN and load with Titegroup.
Kingston Level III, 4.7 gr gave me 170.4 pf (lol, almost sh@t my pants)
Provincials Level III, bumped it to 5.0 and got 174 pf.

Plan on bumping to 5.2 for Nats

Was thinking the same thing. My guess is that it wouldn't need as much, but you won't know until you chrony it.
A little surprised at how high a load is required for my Revo to get a comfortable Major PF of around 180.

Like I said in my first post on this topic - Brian Pearce got 870-880 fps with 4.5 grs from three different makes of 1911 with 5'' barrels. His writings are generally up to snuff on data and I tend to buy into his findings.

I have several hundred different guns that I load for. I have multiple guns in some calibers, including over 20 different 45ACPs.

Each gun gets a different velocity with the same ammo. I have a pair that I use quite often that get 150 fps different velocity with the same ammo.

If you are loading to a PF requirement, be generous with the powder, or you could get caught. In the situation at hand, I would load 4.9 gr for my match ammo, and take 5 rounds of 4.7 to be tested for future reference.

Yeah, weird, ain't it? I've got a pair of Rem 788's in .308. One dotes on 150 gr bullets, t'other prefers 165 gr.
