i have been loading 180 grain fmj .40 with 4.7 grains of titegroup that is there max load . want to switch to lead bullets because of the cost called hodgdons about a load data they do not recommend lead because of pressure spikes . does any one here use that load any problems I'm useing it in a springfield xd it has a fully supported chamber.

Lyman's manual does not list Titegroup at all in .40 S&W. (other calibers Titegroup is in there like a dirty shirt, so it has nothing to do with brands)

As far as lead goes, the manual lists data for 150 grain, and two different 175 bullets.

Both Hornady and Speer, however, do not list cast bullets at all for the 40.

I have been using Plains Ammunition 180 grain lead round nose with 4.7 grains of Titegroup for quite a while now with no problems. I have a CZ Tactical Sport and get a power factor in the high 170's. I have also tried Clays Universal, it worked about the same but it was more expensive. Tried 231... DIRTY! I plan on sticking with Titegroup for quite a while.

Titegroup is a great powder for .40 loaded in minor PF. It may be a little fast burning for hotter loads. I use universal for 170+PF .40 loads

I used TG 4.4 and 180leads as well. I was happy with results. U just need to ensure the bullets are to spec as far as diameter. Had a problem with tumbling and turned out the bullets were 2 thou under spec. You will have no problem..
Cheers
