Has anyone tried titegroup in a reduced load. I have 160gr. cast with gas checks. Thinking that 5 gr of titegroup would be a good place to start. Any input or experience using this combo in a 30-30?

I use 5gr of titegroup in my 303 british with a 100gr bullet. Thats good for 950fps no filler. Just a 22long case full and poured in my 303 case and bullet placed on top. (Actually the 22 lr case is only about 4.2gr so i made a bigger scoup to give an even 5 gr.
ive used down to 2.5 gr and got 700fps and a stuck bullet a few times. Ive never had issue with 5 gr. Ive tried up to 7gr and that worked fine but a little loud for what im using it for.

Hodgdons reloading lists the 308win with 160gr cast bullet and 8gr titegroup (no min or max only 8gr) and thats good for i believe 24,000psi and 1400 fps.

I have used TG in 6,5x55, 8mm Mauser, and .308. I have gone as low as 4gr in 8mm, and it pushed the ball out just fine. Found many of the bullets the following spring with only rifling marks for deformity It's too low a load for anything other than seeing if it would work.

Depending on intent (seeing how fast or slow you can push the bullet), and working from your 5gr start make only tiny incremental changes. A little change in pistol powder charge makes a noticeable change over a chrono.

No unique on hand and running low on trail boss. Got 5 lb of titegroup so thought I'd give it a try.

I got titegroup[TG] only for fun plinking rifle rounds. I don't reload pistols at all. All my cast shooting manuals call for different powders than that. As suggested Unique is in any cast recipe I have access to, as is "2400". I can't find 'em! TG is easy to find, not position sensitive (so far....I've fiddled only), and a little goes a long way.

With a lubed, GC bullet, you could also work down your fav 30-30 powder for equivalent weight.

I haven't used TG, but have fired off several pounds of 700X in various light rifle loads. I now use Unique, mostly because I scored a 10 lb. mother lode of it at a gun show, all for the price of about a pound and a bit. One of the nicest loads I've tried lately is 10 to 10.3 gr. Unique under a 155gr. Lee gc ww in .308, fired from an Israeli Mauser 98.
