Titegroup

I shot a LB of Titegroup, didn't like it, it was economical and fairly accurate BUT it burns VERY hot! Few shots and you can iron a shirt with the gun.

but yes you can use it for .40, 357 and .45 - most pistol powders will do that as well! If you want Hodgdon get HS-6 insted...

How "hot" were these loads?
I'm asking because from what I've read, Titegroup is the powder I'm looking for. I'm so new to reloading my equipment hasn't arrived yet. I'm going to be doing a few different, mostly large volume cases, and I want to load them light. I also don't want to stock a bunch of different powders.
(Sorry if I'm hi-jacking this thread)

Titegroup works great in most pistols. I use it in three calibers, it does burn hot, but low charge weights make it last a long time.

9mm-124gr. TMJ, 4.1gr. Titegroup=1075fps
.40S&W-180gr. TMJ 4.5gr. Titegroup=965fps
.45GAP-200gr. TMJ 4.6gr. Titegroup=900fps.

All loads using Win brass and primers, shot out of the best pistols on earth.

G17, G22 and G37 respectively.

.40S&W w/ 180gr CMJ = 4.6gr Titegroup
.45ACP w/ 230gr CMJ = 4.6gr Titegroup.

Don't even have to adjust the powder measure.

I use Tightgroup as my only handgun powder. I does burn hot but it's fairly clean and economical. Stores around here sell out of TG fairly quickly.

9mm 4.0g w/124g FMJ
.357 6.7g w/125g CMJ
.45 ACP 4.7g w/230CMJ

the load itself was pretty mind (I used it in 9mm and .44mag), the powder just burns hotter than any powder I've tried! (but I only used maybe 10 different powders).

Another thing I don't like about it is that it's a very fast burning powder; you get low velocity but high pressures. (I was just reading a thread on another forum about a a KB with a light 9mm TG relaod)

Also because you need very little of it per load (compared to other powders) if you double charge it it would only fill maybe 70% of the 9mm case, (even less with other calibers with bigger cases) so it would be easier to miss. For beginers I'd recommed something that fills most of the case (lower density powder) so if you so double charge the case powder will overfill.

I just shot Titegroup for the first time tonight with .38 Spec rounds
(3.8gr Titegroup driving 164gr lead TC). Smokey powder. I dunno if I'm going to be happy with it due to the cleaning the stainless revolver from soot...

I have to agree with the small volumes. Seemed like nothing in the .38 casing.

The smoke is from the lead bullet and lube.

If you are going to load lead boolits then you are going to get soot and carbon build up...goes with the territory. Both are caused by the lube burning off which is what you want to happen. Some lead will shave off the boolits as they jump from cylinder to forcing cone and again goes with the territory, I doubt much of the soot comes from the powder.

I found Titegroup burned hotter than I wanted and builds it's pressure slowly. A reason I think why the cases often come out scored using Titegroup. For .38 spl Bullseye, 231 and Unique have given me much better results using a variety of cast lead boolits.

Take Care

See. Learn something every day. I only have experience with Universal and Titegroup for my .38's

I may have to try the rest someday.
