TNA Improved WK Upper Info and Feedback

What is wrong with the 9mm uppers?

True North Arms made a "ready to go upper" that wasn't ready to go (you had to buy extra bits) and it didn't perform overly well from what the gent on the Facebook WK180C owners group outlined.

Perhaps things have improved, it's a great idea and I love that TNA is releasing extras but it is better to do so a little more slowly in my book.

Bought a brand new wk180c a week ago and it came with the new style charging handle with the shoulder.

Can't keep it tight tho, not sure if I should loctite it in tho

Anyone actually own the upper from TNA? Care to share some pics, thoughts?

Hope someone shares. I created this thread and other recent 180 parts ones on the Black and Green Rifle sub-forum for people who own the products to give their opinions, without the editorial oversight that may occur on a sponsor-specific sub-forum.

YouTube channel Canadian Caliber went to True North Arms and produced the following video with them on TNA Improved WK Upper:

Any chance TNA could find a way to add either an exterior flip down dust cover to the charging handle port, or a a split rubber gasket dust cover that the charging handle can slide through while keeping the dust out the rest of the time, like described by Brandon Herrera on the Sig 556 at the following link? -> https://youtu.be/XzvqPAXGIA8?t=592 This would be a bit of a Gucci (or bougie, as Brandon refers to the Sig rubber dust cover), but it has been requested multiple times on the forum. If it could be made to be used with the regular MCR and WK uppers in addition to the TNA Improved WK Upper, there would be even more of a market. The SIG split gasket is riveted in, but if some kind of high strength adhesive could be used, this could be a wear part that could be readily and easily replaced. Just a thought.

Reddit Poster Masonicson posted to Praise TNA's customer service in getting him the parts he wasn't using from his original WK to build a complete enhanced TNA WK in time to go hunting with his father on r/CanadaGuns, https://www.reddit.com/r/canadaguns/comments/qz3yzh/psa_my_experience_with_true_north_arms_and_thanks/ .

Below are some of his thoughts; please go to Reddit thread itself for further details.

I’ve got the TNA enhanced upper/lower receiver combo. This includes the new BCG, cam pin, brass piston bushing. Swapped out the bolt, firing pin/spring/retaining pin from my old WK.

I also retained my original barrel and piston assembly and simply swapped out the old hand guard and barrel nut for the new one.

For the lower I added two new retaining pins (only one featured here), an external bolt catch, a trigger guard, and anti-walk pins for that sweet sweet Geissele SSA-E trigger (it’s night and day compared to the OEM WK trigger)

The rest of what you see is furniture I had on my old WK but I haven’t moved everything over yet so perhaps I’ll post an update when that’s finished (as if it’s ever finished)

The action is such smooth compared to the factory WK. and that Geissele trigger omgaaa.

My conclusion: Hell yes!

It’s lighter, it’s sleeker, the mag well is better, there’s a brass deflector with dust cover and most importantly there’s a spot for a rear takedown pin. No longer are WK owners subjected to the single pivot pin at the front of the receiver set and a bread pan on springs. We’ve got added stability and safety with the addition of the second pin.

Also, the brass bushing replaces the nylon bushing of the original and the BCG with the oversized charging handle has been great

It’s improved by every measure

I phoned TNA, and confirmed with them that the TNA Enhanced WK upper will not fit an MCR lower, either the regular or Spec 180 lower. Someone mentioned they were hoping to build or get a 7.62x39mm upper as a second one for their Spec 180 a while back; it looks like its MCR upper or bust in that case.

Just to clarify, their enhanced upper will fit the the Spectre lower? Right?

If you meant the Spectre Ballistics International (SBI) Lynx lower, I forgot to ask them about that, but since its a WK compatible lower, it should in theory fit. The TNA WK upper will not fit the Spectre LTD. original WS-MCR lower or Spec 180 lower. I suspect this means when it is finally released the SBI Lynx upper will not fit an original Spectre LTD. MCR or Spec 180 lower, but that remains to be determined.

Does anyone have both an SBI Lynx lower and a TNA Enhanced WK upper to see if they fit together? It would be cool to see a picture if you do :)

What I don't get is that the SBI Lynx lower is billed as fitting the WS and WK uppers but a WK upper (or TNA's) won't fit a WS lower?

I can't remember why a WK upper won't fit an MCR-specific lower, but I believe Adriel the Hunting Gear Guy honoured a request to confirm this, since he has one of each, and it did indeed not work for him. This is further proven by Spectre Ltd making a WK specific Spec 180 lower; there would be no need if their MCR Spec 180 lower fit the WK upper.
