TNW Aero owners...

Also.. The two capture pins that hold the lower and upper together- is there a specific side they neer to be slid in from? Because one slid in perfect and the other compeltly got stuck half way and now will not come out.'not even with a hammer and a punch. Christ

I just slide them in the opposite way they came out.... never tried the other side. It's a pretty basic design so take your time and don't "force" anything..... generally with gun assembly disassembly reaching for the bigger hammer is seldom the solution...... unless it is.... :)

Take pictures, be patient and try to use the right tools for the job if you can.

The pin sticking suggests their is a misalignment of the parts.
Your bolt looks pretty dry, try some gun oil.

We soaked the bastard pretty well and was still having issues. And Ya the retention pin will NOT come out at all. It's like that little silver ring around the top of the pin is grinding within the hole

Stuck cross pin.

I had the same issue, but with an extra step.

(DISCLAIMER: I am not responsible for what you're doing to your rifle from this point on)

I e-mailed TNW the first time the pins fell off on their own while I was checking the ejection port (tilting the rifle that is.) I was at the range, shooting. I lost one of the pins. Unpleasant. They sent me a set of replacement pins because I couldn't use the rifle but they were identical to the one I had lost. Please bear with me.

Of the NEW pins, one developed exactly what you said. As I tried to remove it, it jammed halfway through the channel and never came out. Mind you, the gun was fully assembled. I kind of freaked out. I pushed it out a few millimeters, then it stuck. Brass punch and some taps let me remove the lower, then I reached through the retention pin hole and took out the silver ring (already bent out of shape) with needle-nose pliers. Please bear with me some more...

I am currently waiting for TNW to send me the NEW, IMPROVED replacement pins. According to their technical department, these pins will eliminate the problem altogether (of either being too loose or too tight.) It seems they changed the design but didn't explain further. I'll be reporting as soon as I have something.

(I am at work, I'm not able to upload any photos but I have one of the mangled pin. That sucker is softer than I thought. The C-ring did a job on it...)

I just came back from the range. Shot 6 (SIX) rounds through it. I inspected the bolt carrier before and right now.

Guess what? It started getting the same scratch. And I am lubing my guns like you would not believe it.

No. It's not just you. Something id off indeed because now the rear cross pin would not go in unless forced (I can see the upper screw through the hole.)

Yeah this is pissing me off now lol. I hope the store i got it from will refund me.

Just got off the phone with alex from TNW. Some
Of the extractors that are installed in various bolts are too weak and not sturdy enough- causing the stove pipe. He will be sending me a new and more sturdy extractor with the appropriate spring as well as two new cross bolts.

Its nice to hear the people at TNW are at least actively providing service for you....

The first thing I did when I bought my TNW ASR, I switched out the buffer for a Milspec one, I noticed the commercial buffer that came on the gun from the factory was only screwed in halfway. Thinking it was like that for a reason, i screwed the Milspec on roughly to the same position, The gun worked, but occasionally (like 1 in every 60+rnds) the gun would FTE. So I screwed the buffer most of the way out (thinking the buffer spring was too intense), this resulted in rather consistent FTE's. Then I screwed the buffer in the whole way, the gun worked great once again. Not sure if runs better than it did at halfway yet, ive yet to run 50rnds through it since, but so far there has been no FTE.

This is all with cheap 115gr baurnal 9mm, ive yet to try higher gr bullets in the gun.

you have a link to the buffer you grabbed?

I dont think a different brand of buffer will change anything, but perhaps how far you screw it into the receiver will.....

Maybe, maybe not. Alex was pretty convinced its a weak extractor issue and he said a new stronger one would solve it for sure. So yeah he will send me that and new cross pins. Installing a new extractor seems like a #####, I dont have a vice or anything like that. We shall see.

Got another response from Alex at TNW in regards to my bcg

Hello,

Sorry about the delay. It looks from your pictures that the bolt carrier is having some issues. All the streaks show me that it has a very rough finish that can cause some cycling issues. The silver streak that rides over the curved portion that connects with your bolt head is normal (this is where the hammer drags). But, the other circular marks around the carrier is concerning. This rough finish can be remedied by polishing the entire carrier - something that I would just say "send in the gun" if you lived in the US. It is possible to do it on a DIY basis in a shop. Since you live in Canada, we will have to think of a way to resolve this without getting the whole gun back. It is possible to do a parts swap, but I would need to ask the office about how to go about it (as far as paperwork and customs forms are concerned).

Regardless, I will be happy to send you new retaining clips for your crosspins, as well as a new extractor spring and ejector. The last bit about the spring not moving - it is possible you didn't assemble the roll pin back into the bolt head correctly. The tiny roll pin should be flush with the bottom of the bolt head (meaning, it is pounded all the way in). If the roll pin seized before you could get it all the way down, chances are your extractor is just "locked" by the roll pin that bottomed out on it. If you could send me a picture of the bolt head (top and side) I would be able to tell you real quick.

Let me know what you think,
Alex

I had the same problems with pins, what I ended up doing was spreading the rings just a bit ( be aware not to spread them to far cause then they will get stuck and be a bit** to get out, I know cause that's what happened to me lol, but I just worked with them and found the sweet spot and now there nice and firm, but I have messed with the barrel detention and indexing, but barrel is still coming loose ! Not seeing that heavy wear on my bolt though, so far i have put about 500 rounds through and 2 jams and that was with 147gr flatpoint ameridan eagle it doesn't like those at all.
