TNW Suomi M31 Impressions

How does it compare to an P08 Artillery Luger (or any length barrel P08 Luger) with a Shoulder Stock?

Does the Suomi have the "Crack" sound like a Luger when it fires?

Even though the Luger has 8 rounds (3 more than the Suomi), I'm sure they are both a blast to shoot and provide lots of entertainment.

I'm very interested in this rifle, looks like alot of fun.
im looking at using it for 3 gun comps (im just in it for fun) anyone have any input on that?

I had considered using it in a match last weekend, but the single 5 round mag put a halt to that idea. You would want 5 or 10 mags minimum and oculd really only use this reliably to 100 or maybe 150. From experience, 200 yards with 9mm is a bit of a crapshoot, and if shooting at falling plates, you will be lucky to knock them over.

Second outing to the range.

Problems every five rounds (1-2 mis-feeds every mag) - another true TNW product?

I have three theories:
1. Not enough lube;
2. Mag lip might be bent;
3. Doesn't like my S&B 124 gr ammo.

I will play with all three and see how things go next week. The friend I was with was very interested in getting one for himself, until he saw my struggles.

I manage to fire a couple last week.
S&B 124gr worked best,
Hornady 147gr had feeding problems case mouths showed bulges around the bullets,
American Eagle 124gr stove piped, weak for the return springs.

With the owner's permission I bent the extractor on one of them because I noticed it was not holding the case to the bolt face. Cases did not seem to pivot on the extractor, just bounce around and even miss the the ejector IMHO. Much better after that with the S&B.
Lifted the front part of the extractor away from the bolt face until the stud underneath clears it's hole in the bolt and pull forward. Make sure the hammer is cocked or you might have a problem getting the bolt back in.
Should be ok with a good break in period.

the one I received does fire and eject as it should ,only complaint was trigger torque and resolved that by changing the larger vertical spring with a finer one and is now acceptable

I picked mine up tonight.

It does not run S&B 124gr or Blazer Brass 124gr or Speer Lawman 124gr but it does run American eagle 124gr fairly well. One failure to feed in 25 rounds fired. All cases from all brands were ejected with out any problems. I'm only having feeding issues. I will get pics tomorrow if it doesn't rain.

How are everyone’s mags slipping into the receiver? Mine is very tight. I wish I could get my hands on a few more to see if it’s the mag or the rifle.

I also have the problem that I can’t insert a mag loaded with 5 rounds with an open bolt.

The trigger is very stiff but it doesn’t bother me too much. I’ll live with the trigger.

Here is a pic. I will snap some out doors ones tomorrow.

Mine has been working fine since I picked it up last Monday. I have only run maybe 6 mags through it. I cleaned out a colony of beavers with it as well. I am very happy with mine.

My only complaints are that the mags are pinned to exactly 5 so I can't seat a full mag with the bolt forward. Also the stock is fairly homely.

That homely stock is a combat veteran genuine Suomi stock. They aren't new.

It was raining this morning so I decided to modify the mag to hold 5.5 rounds so I can insert a "full" mag on a closed bolt.

I didn't want to drill another hole to relocate the rivet. So I notched the follower. With the rivet removed I loaded 5 rounds and pushed another one 1/2 way in and marked the follower threw the rivet hole. About 30 seconds with a file and she was done. I took about 1/8" of material off. If your going to do this you will need a very short rivit to re-rivet the mag. I cut down a longer rivet.

Also on my mag, the neck of a loaded cartridge was hanging up on the mag when you pushed the loaded round out. So I rounded the inside edge of the mag where it was hitting.

I managed to get a few pics outside.

Got mine, but not out to the range yet. SAme problem as everyone else, in having to modify the mag to fit 5 and seat on a closed bolt. The issue I do have, is that when a loaded mag is seated, and the bolt pulled back, the first round does not chamber, but goes high and pushes the bullet back into the case. This happens 100% of the time on the first round and maybe 25% of the time through the rest of the mag with bolt cycled manually. Any idea how to fix this? Again, she is a heavy beast.

Got out to the range tonight. With the tiny bit of fileing I did to the mag to round the edge and polishing the feed ramp on the barrel it ran almost flawless.

Before it would not run S&B, Blazer Brass or Speer but it would run American eagle fairly well. Now it runs everything but Speer. It jams the 124gr Speer in there pretty harsh. Pushes the bullet so its crooked and the fireing pin doesn't hit the primer. But the bolt does close.

The pic is 2 Speer bullets that jammed, and one American Eagle case that I picked up. It is hard on brass.

It is one hell of a fun rifle to shoot. I don't mind that it is going to be a bit of work to make it run perfect.
