I am looking at a remmington 700 xcr or a tikka t3 in 300wsm any input on what won to buy would be appreciated. The reason for these choice's is I am left handed. Thanks :confused:
 
Remington is better. Its made of actual steel parts, has an adjustable trigger, very accurate, very easy to get to shoot well if it doesnt shoot up to standards out of the box, and they look better. Better resale value too, especially being left hand and stainless
 
Check the quality of workmanship, how smooth is the action, the quality of metal and other parts... cheap stuff will brake first. I never bother with names or brands.... I've seen some famous brands going Kaboom! so I watch for quality and price balance.
 
I'll vote for the Tikka T3. I have a few. I prefer the LS model over a SS. Silky smooth action, great shooters-getting 0.217" for 5 shot group with one of my 270WSM that I reload (other is my wife's rifle shooting factory WS ammo @ under 0.5") I dont care for the plastic clip as compared to my Sako m75 rifles.

A new rifle to consider maybe the new Sako A7. I have not seen or held one , just read off the web.

If you can, buy a Sako m75 or m85 (I personally prefer the stock on the m75 rifle).
 
I will also vote for the Tikka... yes the Remington is made of more steel.

But I have owned both and I currently own 2 Tikkas and No Remingtons.

Yes, Remingtons have more adjustments BUT THEY NEED THEM (in my opinion)

Tikka has the smoothest bolt (only Browning compares for slickness)

Tikkas are made cheaper and with more plastics (or you could also say with modern less expensive, composite materials) The Remington might also look better, a true classic. In the end only you can decide.

I have yet to meet a Tikka that will not do sub moa out of the box and I cannot say that about any other brand in the same category.
 
another vote for the t3 here.....have one in camo stainless 270win. beautiful shooting rifles silky smooth bolt! like it better then my a bolt to be honest(which i never thought i would admit) owned the 700's also and just didnt care for them!:sniper:
 
definitely the Remington. thousands of aftermarket parts and accessories available for them. there are always take-off parts and barrels available in the EE since people are always customizing their 700s.

just try and find something as basic as a replacement stock for a T3 :)

i dont think i would buy an XCR for $1000 though.... look into a 700 SPS SS for $600.
replace the factory synthetic stock with a higher end aftermarket stock. put the factory stock up in the EE.
IMHO a better deal this way.

If you are 'couple times a year hunter type', I'd say go with the T3. That said, I'll probably sell my LH T3 223 in the near future, I'm more of a 'gunnut tinker type'.

If you want a LH Stainless rifle, we south paws don't have many factory options.
-Remington
-Tikka
-Savage
IMO, stainless is somewhat overrated though.
 
I was in the exact same situation as you are, Left hand shooter with the decision to make, after checking out the different rifles in the store my decision was very easy to make, I ordered me a new Remington xcr and I should be receiving it any day now.
As I already own a remington 700 in another model, I am confident I made the right decision.

I agree with you that T3 SS ($700) is more comparable with the SPS SS ($700). XCR is over $1K.

More importantly, I don’t find a left handed version of the XCR or SPS SS in 300WSM:

Also keep in mind that both SPS and XCR are one pound heavier than the T3. That extra pound is a show stopper for me.

If you are the point and shoot type, go with a Tikka (smooth action and accurate). On the other hand, if you like to tinker with your toys, Remington has most after market parts available. There are very few choices for a left handed stainless rifle in the market.

My personal choice is a Tikka T3. :D
 
no doubt that extra pound of weight is from all the metal parts, as opposed to plastic :)
i suppose we can be thankful that they didnt decide to shave off another pound of weight by making the bolt handle and trigger out of popsicle sticks :)

(btw both the T3 and SPS SS are $600 at LeBarons after club card discount)
 
While neither is my cup of tea....i would take the Remington over the Euro-plasti-gun, I've seen some nice Rem. Mdl. 7 rifles at the shop, fluted barrels, laminated or camo stock(without the supersoaker feel to it).
 
Xcr is available in 300rum in left handed price tag of 919.00 at wholesale sports you are correct 300wsm is only in right handed. I did not know this.The best price I can find on a T3 s/s is 769.00.

Did you check in on Ruger? I have a leftie stainless 30-06 but never checked to see if they listed your cal. It is a long list though. Tad heavy but I like the gray lam stock and cycles like silk now after 150plus rounds. Thinking of getting a 223 leftie Tikka or Savage maybe ss or maybe not. I dont remember seeing a Remmie in the $600 range leftie though. Did I miss something? I hate that:)
