To crony or not to crony

I noticed when using a chrony that when you start to enter near max load that a dramatic drop in FPS per additional grains of powder results. I believe this is telling me a red flag is near and a place of diminishing returns is present. Great tools for noting changes like this. I still rely more on what the barrel/bullet combo is telling me at distance. It is nice to know the FPS for dialing up and getting close to targets, but will not replace actually shooting those targets to determine your effective range.

Plus, it helps you estimate how much muzzle and downrange energy the bullet will have to impart into its target. Yeah, you can be accurate as all hell at 200 yrds, but is your bullet still going to be able to take out what your shooting, or will you have a long hike to go on waiting for it to die?

Along with the above, you can also use the data obtained from a chronograph to reduce your powder charge for efficiency or recoil purposes, or increase it to get the most performance out of your hard-earned equipment.
