Hi, I've been seeing lots of recipes for cast bullets using pistol and shotgun powders which seems all good, but wouldnt that leave an excessive void in the cartridge? I've heard of people using dacron, toilet paper, polsynthetic buffer media... etc.
What do you guys use if any, and how do u decipher how much to use?

Some powders are fine without fillers, some are not. I only use data from reputable manuals.
Trail Boss powder is extra bulky, and designed specifically for this purpose. I have used it with good results.

Depends on the powder. Personally i wouldnt use a powder that needed filler or didnt work well at at about 10-20% case volume.
There are lots of powders that you dont need any filler or have any problems with. Choose one of them.

Most pistols don't require any filler. Remember if it's in the manual, it's been tested as is, and there are generally side notes if any special requirements like magnum primers, or do not go below minimum charges. Trail boss is a case filler, but it is one of the dirtiest powders I have ever used. It's generally used for cowboy shooting, and 13 grains will basically fill my 45-70 to the base of the bullet and gives a nice plinking round. As for rifle people have used a small amount of cotton or pillow stuffing (a very small amount) just enough to keep the powder from spreading out in the case, but I've never felt the need. Some people will also switch to magnum primers.
