To Glock or not to Glock?

I own a CZ Shadow but I always wanted a Glock.
First off, should I start with a G17 or a G22 and buy the conversions to 9mm?( would like both and a converted G22 seems to make sense.
Second, why should I bother in the first place? I have heard nothing but good stuff so give me some reasons not to.
I know there are tons of Glock fans out there....

Glock it baby! :D G34 the ultimate IDPA gun. I came 10th out of thirty guys yesterday only because of the G34, otherwise I would have been around 25th! :p

If the thought of a Glock doesn't make you go eeeeewwwwww...

Then go for it. Hell, buy 3 if you want.

Less demand for the guns I want means lower prices on them. That's just science.

I agree that the fit and feel of a glock is not everyones cup of tea, I spent $12.95 on a hogue grip for my G17 and it made a huge difference. Unlike the Sigs, you can pretty much frame a house with a glock and it will still fire afterwards. It's a very " spartan" gun, and because of this it makes it a reliable firearm. Some of the over-engineered handguns out there can be finicky, pricey to fix, and too many components to clean and maintain.

Just my opinion of course.

The .40 cal cost about 5 to 10 bucks more for a box of 50.
I had a conversion barrel for my g22 and i also own a g17. I ditched the g22 because i was firing 9mm through it anyway. The frames are the same size. The g22 recoils sharply in comparision(full loads).
If you really need a bigger bullet than i'd go for the g21(.45) which balances through its cycle nice. I find the .40 cal is the girls version of a 10mm, therefore pointless. All the glocks are simple to strip and modify. The g17 is the way to go for a good functioning autoloader and easier on the wallet. The paper won't know the difference.

I went with P226 over any Glock because it fit me better. I like the Glock, but the Sig was simply a better choice.
That aside, you cant argue with Sig quality or reliability. CDN MP's carry them, Navy Seals, and a bunch of other LE agencies also.
You really cant go wrong either way.

"The g22 recoils sharply in comparision(full loads)."

Please expand. I'm considering a 9mm bbl for my 22.

I have discovered that I simply do not like nor need 40 S&W.

Thanks.

Glocks are great guns to be sure and if you like the feel of the gun and it points well for you then go Glock. If it doesn't feel right in your hands you are never going to be happy with it. As far as reliability is concnerned most modern firearms go bang when you pull the trigger when loaded. Lemons aside I think the Glock reliability issue is over rated. While I haven't owned a Sig the 226 is one fine gun and I know Steve D has never ever remarked about poor reliability from the Sigs he has owned. My CZ's and M&P have never let me down either. Both have grips that for me are far superior than the Glock block.

You probably have noticed that all guns have warranty repair services, including Glock, for a reason. They are mechanical devices and sometimes parts break.

Yesterday as I was finishing a stage he also said the G34 was the ultimate IDPA gun. :D :stirthepot2:

Well sometimes you have to consider the source. He had me buying a Sig 226 last summer.:D

That said the G34 is quite the gun and Savigny seems to do quite well with it. Two problems for me, I can't get use to the grip and if I buy another gun in the next six months my wife might find a place for it that a proctologist might have a problem finding.

Just bought a Gen 4 Glock 17. Fits is a little more slim than Gen3 and it comes
with removable back-straps for various hand sizes and 3 mags. Go with a Glock.

I love Glocks. I would go the 17 just because of the $$ difference in ammo for .40. Plus the G4s have the backstrap options - so maybe a better fit.

My next restricted will be a Glock. It was to be my first - but I found an amazing Browning that I can't pass up.
