I am a fan of hammer shotguns
I have a Husqvarna back action hammer shotgun that seem to be a very nice gun except that it is extremely hard to #### compared with my other hammer guns. Talking with a couple of shooting buddies, they have lightened the #### on there hammer guns by narrowing the main spring. Need opinion , Is this the proper way everyone does it or is there a better way.I do not want to destroy the part as replacements are likely scarce.

My first thought would be to carefully inspect for anything out of line - worn, etc. For example, do the hammer's pivots create un-designed drag due to corrosion or grunge? If all looks okay, then my preference would be to install a replacement spring and work that one down - keeping the current one as "get back to how it was". I do not have any experience with flat spring hammer modifications - an elderly Stevens Favourite has that, but the next model was changed out to a coil spring - so, perhaps was a cost issue for the maker, or a "convenience" thing for the user. As I understand how they work - as you "lighten" that flat spring's force to make easier cocking, you are also lightening the impact force when the hammer / firing pin connect with the primer - so can get to very "easy to ####", but not as reliable to fire - I think?
