Hey all,

I have a CIL 310 (Anshutz) .22 that I bought off of my brother in law a while back. I take it to the range fairly often and it is a wonderful little rifle to shoot.
I'd like to do a little hunting soon but I'm a little leery of taking it out into the great outdoors. I'd be on a quad and I'd hate to mess up the wood or anything else on this gun.
I know it's not a high dollar rifle but it is a great example of that vintage of .22. Should I leave it as a safe queen, range gun and use something else? Thoughts?

They are a great gun. Bought mine new in the mid 70's, has some dings and scratches. Not really a collector item I'd say, take it out and use it. Since I fell into the CZ Vortex, the 310 doesn't go out much anymore. I find the action on the 452 better.

I recently acquired a CIL Anschutz 310 and refinished the stock, so for that reason I wouldn't use mine as a hunting rifle. As Metalbender notes, it's not a collector's rifle but I think I'd prefer to expose one of my CZ rifles to risk of dings rather than something I've "fixed up". It's light weight, however, would make it a great rifle for carrying.

Take a hard plastic foamed gun case and strap/screw/bungie/rope/..........or............use
whatever to affix it to your quad.
Stick Miss Dickens in there safe and sound.

I use a set of the wratcheting type gun grips on my quad, but unlike alot of other guys I see, I always clamp my rifle into place inside a very thick soft case. I ride with the case just slightly opened towards thr butt end to keep the action protected from debris. My thoughts are if I missed a shot because I had to take the time to get my rifle out of the case, my chances of actually getting a shot were near impossible anyways.

Ive seen some guys with their rifles just tossed in them grips just covered in mud and clay, almost made me sick to see it. I chewed out on my buddies when I saw his Enfield sporter caked with mud and with a big gob of clay in the muzzle and all over the scope and action. He uses a case now hahaha.

I have a set of gun grips on the front and even summer riding with minimal puddles gets the gun dirty and dusty in no time. I'll have to see if I can fit the rifle in its case in them. They are just the cheaper bungee style fork grips.

Life is short, use the the thing. I'm careful with my guns...but decided a while back that any gun too pretty to use probably doesn't have a place in my collection. The safe queens are being phased-out, the field guns get the majority of my attention.

You can also damage a gun carrying it like that, a freind sideswiped a tree on a trail and ended up slightly bending the barrel , a plastic case protects the gun a lot more.

I agree with Kamlooky.
You can carry and use a gun without marking it up if you just are careful.
My father took brand new rifles hunting all the time and they came back without a mark as he used a case to take them to his stand and back again to camp.
I saw a guy that had a homemade side holder on his atv that he put a soft case in so a rifle could just be slid in and out of the case.
