To NEA or not?

I just bought one, it's on it's way. :)

Everyone said the Dominion Arms/Norinco ones sucked too, but I have 2 with 8/9K rounds through each of them. Only had to replace extractors once each. No problems with brass case ammo, steel ammo worked fine if I kept up on cleaning, but using brass cases they seem to go forever without cleaning. Accurate enough to hit a 4" plate at 100 with a red dot. Wish I had scoped them when new to see the real accuracy potential.

So I will see about this NEA. It will have a thousand rounds through it in short order, and I'll say if it went well or poorly. :)

I have worked on NEA uppers and lowers. In my opinion, there is no QC. Dimensions are sooooo different from one gun to another. It boggles my mind how it could even happen. Finding simple things like pins becomes a chore of trial and error. Trust me, I have worked on enough of them.

I recently took the chance on buying one of their CCS stocks for a 300BLK build. The stock is out of spec grossly in two areas (shame on me for not trusting my gut and avoiding NEA, but their CCS stocks had reviewed well and they are half the price of the competition). Instead of getting out the tools to make it work, I have thrown it in NEA's court. The retailer was very attentive and directed me to the proper person for resolution. I sent the email on Monday and have yet to get any response whatsoever. The retailer has stepped up to attempt to get some response. Good on the retailer.

Let this be a warning. You have many people who have trouble free experiences with their ARs. I have had many students have their NEA ARs crap out with faulty components that are not easily remedied. I can actually only recall one student have a training session with an NEA not have a stoppage. And my current experience with their response is less than acceptable.

I have a NEA and i love it!! I have a 14,4 inch upper and group 2 1/2 at 100 yrds whit china surplus non corrosive ( trigger kit at 3 pounds)
Good quality for the price never had any trouble is a seconde generation!
I would buy again anytime!!
I hope to buy the New NEA 25 Non restricted (Buy one for sure very good product!)
I never buy a ATRS modern verminter (Price is very to high and exaggerated 4000$ for non restricted black rifle no-way!!!)

About 3000 rounds now with no issues. Other than I hate the effing brake, but I hate all brakes.

Regardless of how NEA might have improved, or not. The fact is there are so many good choices out there nowadays, that should be the focus of AR consumer discussions.

You have to be weary of anybody saying that their rifles give them no problems...200, even a 1000 rounds in a year is NOTHING...buy once, value wise, NEA is not that good these days when comparing to other choices

I don't get people who want to buy a NEA AR when they know of the issues with them shared here on CGN.

I mean if NEA's were only $700 or were known to always perform with sub MOA accuracy sure take a chance, but with so many issues over the years why bother.
Seriously there are so many options at or near the price point of an NEA why settle for a possible lemon and don't forget the difficulty that may be encountered when the time comes to sell it versus another, let's say more popular brand.

Better yet save for a couple more months and buy a DD, Colt (USA or CDN), LMT (any of these new or used) or any number of other fine AR's that do not have a reputation of poor quality control and possible safety issues.

Friends don't let friends buy NEA

Agreed...

I agree, 1000 in a year is nothing...I've had one for 2 months and it's had 3000 rounds now. This time next year it will be well over 10K rounds if all goes well. SO far, I'm happy, but I will certainly report any issues if they arise.

But damn, I gotta put a flash hider on it and get rid of that brake!

Anecdotal reports are just that.
Just like many people keep providing anecdotal reports that they personally did not die from using Eotech during their own overseas deployment, it does not negate the reality of real issues actually occurred that can put lives at risk.
So for ARs, so-what if a hundred people post their reports of so far trouble free experiences?
The better question to ask is, with so many solid and reasonably priced choices out there, what is the overwhelming impetus to gamble ones money on this particular choice?
If the motivation is to support a small Canadian company, or to support your friends or favourite retailers who sell them, then go for it with that as the spending rationale.

Individual reports- positive or negative- are all anecdotal reports. Let's not forget that.

My motivation was simple-

I had 2 black AR's and the NEA bronze one looked cool and I thought my gun range guests would like to shoot it. I get to see lots of guns and ammo getting shot, often for prolonged periods, and often with minimal cleanings. So far, the NEA has held up just fine, even with several hundred rounds shot one after the other...

But like I said, if an issue arises, I'll mention it. I just noted on the WARTAK ammo thread in the AMMO forum, that I had 10 000 rounds and I had one squib and 2 absent primers. Other people had other issues. But we can only report on what we actually experience, otherwise it's just hearsay.

Good points made...
