This has probably been talked about on here before but what are some of your opinions on (white)painting in the hard to see markings on a milsurp. I realize in the end it is solely my choice but I want to get a feel for what others have done or think. Another question, do you feel it would compromise re-sale at all?

Don't paint.

Use a white pastel crayon. Works great! :)

The white crayon some people use (I think it is the tire marking crayon ?) can help to provide clarity of markings for photos but I personally don't like seeing it on milsurps I am buying as that is not how they left the factory or were issued in service.

Others will certanly feel different though so it is a debatable topic.

If you really feel the need to paint something, come to Manitoba and you can paint my house. Laugh2

In most cases, a good digital camera that focuses for close-up pictures can give very good details of most markings on a rifle.

The big thing is to have a good light source, (not flash,) and hold the camera steady or on a tripod. I have even mounted the camera on a tripod and used the timer to take the picture to avoid camera shake.

I find, now that I am "plus 70," that my eyesight is not the best, but I can still take fairly good close up pictures of markings and such.

So, I guess you can put me down in the 'moderately dislike" seeing white paint or crayon on markings.

Go to a crafts store and pick up a white grease pencil. Comes off easy with rubbing alcohol. (crayon is too messy, and is a ##### to remove).
