To patch or not to patch... that is the question !

sorry, BB keyboard fun, meant they have been shooting for no score up to that point as I will then 10.6 them for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Slavex,

this is stretching 10.6 (patching), at arbitration they will reinstate the shooter.

Sometimes setting examples is better then disciplining people.

Actually it would be 10.6 for failing to failing to comply with the reasonable directions of a Match Official. It's not a stretch...

Just raise the price of the shoot to include patching. Hire people to do it. See how long that lasts.

Lots of other shooting disciplines hire trappers to do the work and it's folded into the match price.

Some people don't want to work, but are prepared to pay someone else to do it. Just look at your own club if it's voluntary. The same 13 people do all the work and the others drive in, shoot, and drive out.

Money talks.

That was tried at one of the major IPSC matches a few years ago and the officals lost. I can't remember the match but I remember everyone talking about it. It had to deal with a squad of people from a certain country (not N.A.) who were not patching and were pretty pissy about it.

So you can't DQ or " unsportsmanlike conduct" someone for not patching.

I know that in most matches at the shooters meeting they ask you to patch and reset steel. Sometimes they tell you to leave the activators to the officals (to reduce reshoots) and I know that going in. So its no surprise to me.

I've had "non- patchers" on my squad and the simple solution is to stop patching just before they are to shoot. Sit down and take a break.

Yeah, it's funny how 10.6 gets brought up for every little thing we're not happy about...lol
IMO it should never be used except in the extremest of situations. If your first thought is to DQ someone you may not have the temperment to be an official.

If working is listed as part of a match, and people don't, be it as dedicated workers opposite their shooting time, or being required to help out when actually shooting, they should be prepared to not get to shoot either. Pretty simple.

Whatever type of matchg it is patching/resetting for your fellow shooters is just common courtesy... Unfortunately some folks weren't raised well enough.

'Been to shoots where some squaddies think it's okay to disappear after they've shot or just hang around talking or... Pretending to be busy screwing around in their range bag leaving fewer and fewer guys to help patch/reset.
It doesn't happen too often, but boy it's a piss off when you're the guy "up" or "on deck" and you're the one who has to reset and patch just so you can shoot the stage.

Of course... Enough of the time I find that my fellow shooters are trippin' over eachother to get a stage reset. 'Makes up for the few times you get squadded with the oblivious... :)

Helping out when you are shooting is not working. Some people tend to confuse the two.

At one of our Level 3's about 4 years ago...working was listed as optional...and this smarmy little #### on our sqaud sat on his ass the entire morning...until I shoved a pile of patches in his hand...and "explained" the difference to him (and not in my normal diplomatic candy coated fashion ;) )

I will say though... It's really nice when you don't have to patch/reset...

FB3G employs an army (literally) of range staff who look after everything...
'Finish a stage and on the "range is safe" command a dozen guys come running to patch, reset steel and caddy your gun(s) back to the rack.

All you have to do walk around with the scorere and gawk at your targets.

I've never felt so decadent. Can't wait to do it again this year.
