To repark or not to repark that it is the question (updated)

Park or leave as if

You can remove all of the previous finish with muriatic acid. It removes finish fast. Don't leave it in longer that 30 minutes, five should do it. And make sure it is totally immersed.

This also gives off some real nasty fumes, don't do it inside or breath over the container.

And if your not comfortable or know the safe practices with acid. Don't do it. You can be blinded or seriously burned.

Leave it as is. I'd chrome it before I reblued or reparked it!
You see too many Lugers that met that fate!
It doesn't need the pimpshined new look, it has enough character with the original finish.

Forget the machining; that is going to eliminate any markings, and could open a real can of worms. If you do decide to repark, beadblasting is the first step anyway. Have you determined if the remains of the finish that you see are the original finish, or remains of an Asian refinish?

Don't machine ANYTHING! Either a gentle bead blast or a Muratic acid dunk. I'd use the acid dunk personally. It works VERY well. Muratic Acid is sold at crappy tire. Just heed SKSCanuck's warnings!

Radocy park works REALLY well on these!

My shooter, the one with the new decal, was in far worse shape than yours. My bud blasted it and re-parked. It now, IMHO, looks almost as good as any HP out there. It didn't change the worth, and makes for a great shooter. I also don't mind showing it and could use it as a display. Either way, a light blasting and dark re-park will do it good.

Going by the pics, it looks very much like it's already been re-parked once in it's life anyway.

Ya I think so as well, the rear sight was all grey/black when I got it instead of shiny etc etc.

If its been reparked allready once after the factory might as well do it again I guess,

Well heres an update on my little project. I decided against parking for the time being and just felt I'd clean it up a bit. I took some steel wool to some of the rust and had a bit of success. Then touched up the nasties with some oxpho blu and it came out somewhat darker and more true to form.

I didnt go over board with the bluing to give it that aged look. Then ordered in some jewellers needle files and cleaned out the serial numbers to give it that sort of original finish look. That took forever. No caffeine that day for sure.

I then took a dremel with a cloth non abrasive rotary bit and some brasso to the rear tangent sight and it came out to a nice clean mirror like finish.

Then one of Koldt's water transfer Inglis stickers and a shoulder stock to finish things off.

Its still on going but I,m happy with it and for a 60 year old pistol with a crappy bore its one of my most accurate pistols I own. Its accuracy is damn near uncanny at times.

Great little guns.

Anyhow heres some picks, enjoy

wawa wee wah! I like! That looks ultra sharp Mr.C... With the decal and stock, it looks almost new, but not too new. How did you clean out the serials? THAT's a nice touch!

Gotta say it again, I really like that. Where did you find the shoulder stock/holster? New or repro? Where did the gun come from? Would you mind Pm'ing me with what it cost all in? I'd like to do something similar...

As far as I am concerened you did it perfect. It has a old levis look that really
suits that kind of firearm. I love the way a slick park looks on a norinco but it seems tacky on something with history. I love the shoulder stock, I have never fired a HP with one and have wanted to ever since I was a little kid. It must be pretty accurate.
