Hello all, I was recently given about ⅝ of a Browning a500g. It's missing the complete trigger mechanism, the forestock, mag cap, and the follower. I found all the parts I need for sale in Canada, but they're definitely not cheap, in my opinion. The question is, should I? Google gives a very mixed review of this model, and the fact that they were only made for a few years says something. But, I hate to see what could be a good gun die, and it's a Belgium made gun. Does anyone have any experience with this gun?

Buy one that is fully together and functioning. Then you could modify the barrel from the one you have for a slug barrel or if it has a different choke you have that option of swapping out barrels for different applications. You also have a spare stock or forend should you ever need it. The A500's were good guns. They just didn't gain a following so were discontinued just like many other models and brands out there. I know a few guys with them and they work great.

Yes, I had one.
Really a POS.
Even my body; TOZ semi-auto was better then that.
Gladly sold it for $350. Big money for a SP.
Throw that in garbage, will save you lots of time, money , headache. put your money and energy somewhere else.

I have an A500G (gas gun) that has been in the family since new. It has never given any issues but has not been fired much. My father bought it in retirement as a duck gun but only got out from time to time on the east coast where the ducks are fewer than here in AB. I fired a couple of flats through it over the years. It patterns steel well and functions perfectly in all weather. It throws the pattern above the bead due to the rib design and I am a 60/40 guy so it was never a go to gun for me.

I have read that the A500R (recoil gun) were problematic. It would be difficult to be compared with the A5 and not get some criticism.
