I have a 1911 in 38 super with a 4 digit number ( built 1930) that I shoot with factory ammo on special occasions. But if i wanted to shoot that caliber seriously, I would get another....

i have a 1919 norweigian colt 45 it shoots just fine. the military ammo always had more power than the civilian ammo, so modern ammo wont bother it!

+1 on shooting it unless it is unfired. If you look after it, a moderate amount of shooting won't hurt anything. It's not like you would be holstering it, right?
