To SPUHR or not to SPUHR

I could never justify the cost, but my scope top out at $1800 so it was hard to spend that much on a mount. (I went the American Defence route and like them.)

Candocad.

+1 on the ADM ones. For the rifles I don't have Spuhr for, I use ADM which work just fine.

For what it's worth, I gave ADM a call and the ADM RECON has been tested for 50bmg and is GTG.

I shot some slow-mo video on my iPhone this summer of my son and I shooting my .50 BMG with the ADM mount, and it clearly shows the mount flexing to the point where the scope bell nearly collided with the pic rail. The cantilever design does allow for a "torque moment" to develop in my opinion, so I would use this mount carefully on a heavy-recoiling rifle.

Your mileage may vary!

Spuhr = Good
Near Alphamount = Good
AI mount = Good

Don't know what kind of gun that you have but you could get a 20MOA rail and then a flat mount. That way if you end up down the road with a gun with a 20MOA rail you can move there.

Which model? I'm using the ADM RECON SL, no cantilever:

Duh any scope ring/mount can slip if you don't torque them properly.

If this is too difficult for you to understand maybe you shouldn't touch guns.

I have a Vortex HD Gen 2 that I need mounts for and I had decided to use the SPUHR mount as my Rail is 0 MOA and I get the option of 20MOA with the spuhr mount and it's suppose to be top notch. I have read some reports of scopes sliding in the mounts and wrecking the finish. I see in there manual that your suppose to use rosin between the rings and scope. Some claim it's not necessary others say they needed it or the scope would slide under recoil. So whats the opinion of CGN members that run the mount.

I would recommend being objective - pick rings and rail based on your shooting needs (distance you are shooting, size of scope in relation to your rifle and rail, elevation requirements based on the distance you are shooting, and the scope positioning on the rifle to work with your shooting positions), as opposed to what particular mount you have.
There are lots of exceptional quality products out there that will do the job with little to no compromise in quality and maybe, just maybe improved functionality.
Sure, the Spuhr is pure ###, the flavour of the day and a fantastic looking mount, but is it going to put your scope too far above the bore axis like it did with another poster's rifle just for the sake of bragging rights to say you use a SPUHR?

Wow although I may have you mixed up with another member but I believe you work for North Sylva so a response like this doesn't surprise me. I was looking for member's thoughts here as I found a thread on another website and there were two people that had slipping issues with this mount both were torqued properly and one was with a high end calibrated screwdriver not a cheap wheeler. When Sphur (the actual company) responded they said thats why highly recommend rosin. the one guy used it and said it fixed his problem. The other guy switched mounts and Sphur asked for it to be shipped back and check if it was a defect (no update was ever given) Never once did he say to re torque or challenge there torque setting so I wondered if this was an isolated issue or common I had no desire to spend 525 bucks and have to use rosin but I liked the other features of the mount.
