to TALLEY or not to TALLEY thats the question

I've placed an order for a Cooper (jackson squirrel .22) from Prophet River. To my understanding they come with Leupold bases. I was thinking about opting to the Talley lite weight solid rings/base combination which would remove the alineing problems associated with the Leupold ring base combo.:confused:....
SO now tell me what you think about the Talley's as I've never owned them and I want to have a nice looking as well as good functioning rifle for my--- 60th birthday present to myself. thanks for the input:wave:
 
Well they are not perfect, but they do definitely help with ring/base misalignment across the length of the receiver. I find you never have those slightly out of alignment problems you can get with the two piece base/ring combo. They may be a thou or so off on occasion (or your receiver holes may be too) but I don't find that affects things as much, as you don't have that second joint to deal with. Personally I am putting them on all my rifles as new glass goes on them or as a buy something new...Personally I think they are the best rings out there for the price, weight, and ease of installation.
 
The talley's are great rings. I use several light weights and standard talleys on my rifles. The light weights are nice beacause they are one peice, but they can be a touch high. On your jackson with the raised cheek piece you may be o.k. On my cooper classic .22 I used the leupold's to keep the height down and on my cooper JGR .338/06 I used the light weights. Warne also makes a one peice and two piece weaver mounts if that interests you.

Nice choice, I love my cooper .22, and I like the jackson style stock.
 
I have three set's of Talley one piece and absolutly love them. Bought a set of Burris rings for 50% more than I pay for Talley's for my last gun. Put them on the rifle and took them right off and ordered another set of Talley's. Will not buy anything else...great price at $50.00 to my door. Remember to get the low hieght if you have anything that is 44mm or less.
 
Talley's are great, but they are designed for Leupold scopes. I have had trouble mounting both a burris FF11 and a couple of different Zeiss Conquests. A scope with a large eyepiece can bump the base if you like the scope set very far forward.

You are new to CGN aren't you? Don't worry, todbartell is just a fun loving M700 fan who works at a Sporting Goods store. He has the occasional post on CGN ;)

I use Talley LW's on two of my Model 70's both with Leupold scopes. They work fine if the receiver holes are drilled straight. I tried them on a M700 I have but had to change to a windage adjustable Leupold base on that rifle.

order them straight from Talley, shaves a week off ordering from Canadian dealers who simply order them from Talley then send them to you.
