To those new to turkey hunting.....

Good luck to all you thunder bird hunters. Remember those of us in places like NS who don't have this opportunity... Man, I hate this province. I'd take Wynn and turkey hunting any day over this shi**y ocean playground.

I'd love to have your sea duck hunting... I will swap you, you take Kathleen Wynne and I will take a week of hunting for eiders and scoters and oldsquaw.

What the sam hell was the guying shooting at, the sound of smacking gum, brutal

Seriously....to the point people trying to make saying the course was useless because you cant fix stupid....well this is a good example of that. As Hoyt mentioned, its the calling that lures people into carelessness. If you look at the ground behind the kid after he gets shot, there is a fan tail on the floor. Wonder if thats why the guy took the shot? Good thing the kid wasnt seriously injured, but I hope the dude who pulled the trigger loses his right to hunt

It looks like the shot ricocheted from well back in the bush. If you watch the video closely, you will see some dust fly up back in the bush.
2:09, to the left of his head.
The bulk of the shot impacted low in the bush well behind.
The other hunter must have had no idea that group was there.

You said it was a 243 rifle.thst hit a tbar fence post. Thy were shooting st the decoys in front of the hunters sitting against the logs

I was shocked and then disappointed myself when I heard that Ontario decided to cancel the turkey hunting course. I did it many years ago when just the sights of a wild turkey was big news. I agree it was more of a gathering of outdoor enthusiasts then a course. Lots of good info from hunting techniques, safety and history. Still think it’s a shame new turkey hunters don’t have to take it.

From what I read on these forums there was a wide variation in the format and content of the turkey course. The one I attended was, I felt, a complete waste of time as far as useful information was concerned. It dealt mainly on safe hunting techniques which mostly were only common sense , and yes I realize that is sadly lacking in some cases.

Things have changed so much since I lived back east. Back on the cousin's farm hanging out during sugar season last year I noticed the turkey hunting setups everywhere (deer blinds as well I guess). Saw one flock of about 15 wandering next to the sugar bush while tapping. That got the blood pressure up. This is all private farmland country, my cousin does have control of 1800 acres approx. They let certain people hunt, this controls who is and is not on their land. I have not looked into what it would cost for me to hunt as non-resident in QC for Turkey as of yet. There are black bear as well, another thing that was not about when I was a kid. But I am itching to get back there next year for some sugar coated turkey. I figured on this year but we are holding down the home ranch here in BC. Runoff is going to be very exciting this year.
