... and what a lovely worm I snapped up! 1960s vintage, Ithaca 37 Featherlight in 12 ga, looks brand new.
I've been looking for a nice 37 for some time, and this will be my first one. Any tips or advice from the old hands around here?
So you're the guy who snapped that up!!! Congrats, that is one sweet looking gun!
I contemplated all 3 of his firearms up today... was himming and hawing on this one. Himmed and hawed too long on the revolver, but glad I took his other one as well.
Definitely a great gun, I had a Ithaca 37 Featherweight before and tried to replace with 870s, 500s, HP9s, etc but with nothing comparing to it.
Only tip I can think of is use light loads in it since they are light weight and can give a pretty sharp kick
at least mine does in 12ga and 16 ga Cheers
So you took the BSA sporter? That one looked to be really nice as well. I thought about that one too, but the safe is getting crowded!![]()
I'll be setting up to reload for it eventually - thanks for the advice. This is going to be my grouse gun, methinks.
Congrats it is a sweet gun and mint. Great price also from an excellent seller![]()
has he sent you feedback yet?![]()
Should clarify , It has no problem handing the heavy lead loads if your shoulder is ok with it
For me light target loads work just fine for upland hunting
Cheers
Indeed I did! Have an Indonesian, and Lithgow No1 MKIII's... add a BSA to the list. Boy my order to Numrich's for Enfield parts is going to be costly lol.
Price was amazing, and then I saw the rear handguard already on it too and thought EVEN BETTER as it is 1 less part to order/find!
has he sent you feedback yet?![]()
Yep, I seriously considered taking them both - but I wanted the shotgun more, and the safe is at its limit - time for a bigger safe, maybe...

That 37 is a 1955 to very early 1960's model. Ithaca changed to pressed checkering on the stocks of 37's made after 1960 about. The ringed fore wood remained until about 1966. That one is in my opinion the ultimate Ithaca model 37 Standard Grade type. It was also the first version to get the ray bar sight. My source is from Walt Snyder's 37 bible "Ithaca Featherlight Repeaters... The Best Gun Going" If you have the ser# I can date it for you.
