Today is a sad day

I'm with Slavex on this one... No more taking a dump alone youmight have an aneurism and die because there wasn't someone handy to call 911..

This is crap and I highly suggest some motivated members at Barrie work very hard at getting on the board ASAP to fix it.

It's a BS rule. Having gone through all the hoops to get guns, join a club, get the paperwork the club insists that fully-grown, adult men and women need to adopt the "buddy system" to go shoot.

Fortunately the clubs to which I belong trust the membership a little more than they do in Barrie.

I did not know about Guelph and Sharon on Sundays, I guess that makes them less desirable as I wanted to go and practice probably some of those days as most of the matches are on Saturdays.

Sorry Orilla is to far away for me... if I do not have any other options perhaps...

I will take a look at Aurora.

This is exactly the kind of gibberish that just furthers the argument "ooh, guns are dangerous". You're allowed to drive alone, right? Swim alone?

All of which are considerably more dangerous than shooting....

Yes it is perhaps SAFER to do all of those things with a second person. A ship in harbour is safe too, but that's not what ships were made for...

Shooting On Sunday, Shooting Alone

I believe shooting alone is a choice of shooters, but clubs are just trying to cover their butts. If you shoot alone and the club rules say you have to have a partner they are covered if the member gets hurt. Otherwise someones wife will be talking to a lawyer and going after the Canadian retirement plan, at the expense of the clubs insurance.
If any of you have been a director of a club this issue might have been addressed? I won't put my name up for nomination because of the liability issues. Most clubs are now getting a separate insurance to cover the executive for any errors and omissions.
NOW I don't agree with not being able to shoot on Sundays. I think the member should be able to shoot on an outdoor range any time they want during daylight hours. The Sunday thing is getting carried away if it doesn't bother anyone. Most of the older ranges are being squeezed by residential development and there should be a law about encroaching on a range. The Sunday thing sounds like a religious thing to me.

if you are shooting with someone else and you get hurt what friggin difference will it make? none, zero, zip, zilch. yeah sure that person might be able to call 911, or they may pass out from the blood and dangling limbs, or hey maybe the explosion will take them out too. Now the club is liable for two people, not just one.
This ruling is stupid to the Nth degree. there is no rational reason for this. If they were having problems with vandalism or improper target placement, this won't help either, unless they have a list of acceptable shooting partners for you to use.

You boys better move down to the east coast, what's a man to do , no shooting on Sunday:eek: , no shooting alone:eek: ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Liebrals got you on the run???????:p

YOu guys have more libs than we do.

Anyways, GRGC members, the Steering Comitee is behind the wheel again. They are readying for no Saturday shooting. Stand tuned for news.

How on earth I am suppossed to practice? Nobody want's to practice with someone that is at a lower level.
Lets see, I have to find a guy who has a similar level o higher, who wants to practice the same things I want (the ones I suck at which are quite a lot) with me, on Saturdays, at around the same time, who is a member of the same club......IT IS IMPOOOSSSSIBLE
GTA IPSC shooters have been condemned to dry-fire in their basements and only shoot matches. Guys how do you do it? How do you go from high C to M without practice?

Check around at some of the local clubs (burlington, gormley, wentworth, brant)

Most of the clubs in the GTA have some form of weekly practice sessions or club level matches...in the evenings...

If you plan it out, you could pretty much shoot every nite in GTA...

...and don't be so sure that no one would want to practice with you...pick the club you want to join...and post a notice that you want to start up a small practice group (pick a day)...I think you'll find that there alot of people in your situation

Cheers

Another solution

As I was told by one of the Supreme Smartasses, the reason for no shooting alone is, a fear of THEFT.

Imagine you having your toys on the bench and going downrange. WHile you are 100 yds awaya, a Mambo King jumps in and gets your toys.

IF you have a buddy or buddies, this would less likely to happen. ;)

Or another solution (or two) to this problem....

1) Lock the gate behind you when you go in then only other members can get in easily.

2) Carry the firearm downrange with you. Then its all nice and safe. For IPSC practice this is easy as you have a holster to put it in.

Those are two really simple solutions to the problem. Cost/effort to the club... ZERO...

Some things are best practiced in a group, some things aren't. I think everyone should have the option.

?

Very much NOT TRUE!

One of my best training days ever was when I was a member of GRGC.

I dropped in for some practise and found Mike and Robin there ( both GMs IIRC).

They were more than happy to play along with a "C" class shooter like me.

Now I am a happy "B" and moving and on the hunt!

I suggest that if you decide to stay at Barrie (and I think you should as it has great resources), you use their IPSC forum to post when you want to have practice sessions. There are plenty of IPSC shooters who would love to come out and practice with the season gearing up, myself included. I have a similar situation in that I live north and west of the club (takes me an hour to drive down) and would love to have some practice time. I am currently classified as M in standard and A in Production and have no problem shooting with any class shooter, as long as they are nice people.

I can almost gaurantee you that the things you suck at, are most likely what most shooters suck at (or sucked at at one point in time). The higher level shooters get better by practicing the BASICS, and all practice is good practice.

Think about it, but I think you will find there is plenty of Barrie Gun Club shooters who would take you up on that offer.

I go to Gormley on Wednesdays (when I can) but shooting 3 stages is not practice, practice for me is repetition... drawing engaging a target and reloading and stop then repeat until you have improved your times...you know (perfect practice from Saul Kirch rings a bell)

I also already got together with other guys at Barrie but my schedule right now is pretty erratic, I can not commit to a certain day. So usually what happens is when you have time you phone them and uderstandingly they have other commitments

We have a regular IPSC Practice on Saturday at at the RA Centre here in Ottawa...

from 2:30 to 5ish it's drills and then from 5 on we set up a big field course and go at it...

There must be a club somewhere in the GTA that does that...or would let you start up something like that...
