Since i've got my 45 Colt-410 guage Survivor H&R, i decided to renew with my lead casting bullets making, got the furnace out in the yard and took a big bunch of wheel weight, heated up the lead, cleaned all the impurty and after a couple of batchs, i have managed to make 20 pounds of ingot in the mold, have to order a couple of 6 cavity molds, one to make 255 gr and one for 300 gr, will call Higginson this week... JP.:)
 
Can be quite a pleasant although tiring experience! I generaly try to run off around 100-150 lbs at a sitting. This all goes well untill you get a nosy neighbour that is convinced that because it is lead ( must be prohibited ) you are single handedly killing the planet!!! Last year I had a visit from the city fire dept. after a report that I was burning something illegal in my back yard. They came , they saw, and left with a have a good afternoon and the caution to be safe while going about my chores!!! Perhaps I too will fire up the pot this afternoon ?
 
My back yard is like very big and my only neiborg is the other side of the road, quite peacefull area here... JP.
 
I generally do my melting down in my garage with the front door open a slight bit and the back door open wide and a fan moving air. That way nobody will come snooping around.

I went to a tire shop last fall and bought 2 buckets of wheel weights, paid 20 bucks for each bucket and the guy said come around to the back and pick them up, I will have one of the young fellows load them for you.

I was just as happy to even find some WW now a days with all the enviro-nazi's out there.

So I pull around back with the suburban and here are two young guys with 13 buckets lined up at the back door. I opened the door and they loaded them all in. "Boss said to give you all we had".

I felt like that IKEA commercial "Start the car, Start the car". leave as quickly as possible.

Took me and my friend the most part of a Saturday making 25 pound ingots (old bread loaf cast iron mold). We got about 800 lbs of WW and 75 lbs of stick on's (almost pure lead).

I have nearly 3 tons of lead now and I still think I need to get some, lol.
 
I must half a ton in the shed, one of my inlaw own a car repair shop and he never stop bringing me some for 2 reloded box a year of 270... JP.

I have read that the new stick on weights are pure lead but the clip on type have a varying amount of antimony in them. How much antimony depends on the age and source.
 
Having 5 or 6% of antimony is good, it does help the lead to be harder, just finish another 25 pounds of clean ingots, when the molds get here, shoud be fast, after resized to .452 and up to the reloading table... JP.
