Had fun at the range today, brought a pack of balloons some twine and strung em up at 100 and 200 yards. :D

The past 2 gun clubs I've been a member of have disallowed the use of anything but paper targets. No balloons, no cans, I even got into trouble for using paper plates I had painted orange and stapled to the target stand. You should consider yourself lucky!!

Our rules state only paper, but I asked if balloons would be OK. They said no problem as long as you pick up after........It's nice to shoot something different. Often on Fridays I can get to the range around noon and more often than not I'm alone there. This was the case today once again. :)

Yeah its a bummer when you are restricted to paper only. I use my club for seroius target work but when I want to have fun I head out some ranch land and shoot clays and fruits/vegetables.

Its reactive and biodegradable.

I have never used ballons but I will have to grab a pack of them for my next outing.

I'm wanting to try an idea that was suggested to me.

Freeze a water balloon. Esp. if you add a few drops of colour before you fill it.

Probably not a good target on a range where ricochets are a big deal, but I can think of a bunch of places that they would be fun.

Cheers

The fun part is that you can blow em up to a desired diameter. This was about the size that I blew them up for 200 yards.

I would blow them up smaller for 100 yards. My scope is sighted for 50 yards and I know how much hold over I need for 100 yards but this was the first time I was shooting 22lr at 200. Without someone spotting me I would never have been able to figure out where my rounds were hitting at 200. With the balloons it became obvious!

My club silverdale (hamilton ontario) is pretty lenient with most things, you just have to ask and it has to not disturb those around you

That so wasn't my experience there. I was constantly harrassed by a range officer FUDD.

I picked up your blown baloons today at the 200 yards range...LOL

The only one giving me a hard time on my range is me. Kind of nice it`s only 30 yards from the house so if i forget anything it`s not a big deal. I let a few friends i trust use my range as we don`t have a registered range any more. Got real expensive for insurance so we had to close up.

For the kids I bring soda crackers and dollar store suckers to shoot as nothing to pick up in the bush later and the critters get a free meal!

My dad taught us boys how dangerous gun were if you fooled around with them, by shooting a watermellon with a 410 shotgun, it sure got the point across good, when he said if you shoot your brother or me this will be whats left of our head! A real lesson with reactive targets that stays with me to this day!

Love the balloon idea, I started this out last summer for a fun target for the kids, but I think I enjoyed it more, haha, Dale Z!

A good one is a 2L pop bottle filled with hot water with a few drops of food coloring on a cold day. The hot water pressuerizes the bottle so when hit it will burst in a cloud of colored steam

You want to challenge your aim? Hot glue some paintballs to a piece of cardboard. Instantly see if you hit. Just don't try it on a hot day. Glue softens up and drops the paintballs.

One of my favorite reactive targets are Frozen Water Balloons with food coloring in them. Once frozen, you can pop the balloon and set the ice block out to annihilate - nothing to pick up afterward.

It does require some preparation and a cooler to transport (if you don't get to shoot in your backyard), but they sure are a hoot.

This year I'm looking to try those VisiChalk Discs - another great non-toxic idea: http://www.championtarget.com/targets/interactive/visichalk.aspx

Paintballs are fun, I have a different way of setting them up though, no glue required. I have a 2x4 with a bunch of 3/16" holes drilled every few inches. Just stick a golf tee in the hole, and lay the paintball on that....works great!

Lot's of fun at 100 yards! lol.
