Tokarev 1937 - What is this??

Picked up two Tokarev pistols, one 1945 and one is this neat 1937 marked unit. It is numbers matching but the slide has this neat purple/blue color. Anything special here?

It's just that particular blueing process. IIRC some of the scope caps on older Leupold scopes go that color over time.

I think it has to do with the type of bluing process used on surfarce hardened steel. I had a M1 Garand received blued and it turned out with a purple tint to it. It's not original finish on that one.

Nothing significant, just one of the post-war refurb variants...I believe it based on Manganese Nitrate solution.

Whatever came of it, the different color definitely gives it character. Looks interesting.
