I have an old tokarev t-33. I was at the range and the gun was occasionally bump firing. basically I would pull the trigger and it would fire two rounds sometimes three. I took it home and gave it a good cleaning and returned to the range it doesn't happen as often but on occasion it will still bump out two rounds when the trigger is pulled. I asked my dealer about this where i bought it. He suggested i put a post on here to see if there is a simple fix for this problem?? Has this ever happened to anyone else with the old t-33? Any advise would be appreciated, I was using factory lellier & Bellot FMJ ammo.

That's not 'bump firing' it's slam firing and it's really dangerous. Take the firing pin out of the slide and clean it, then clean the FP channel, and make sure it's dry before re-assembling it. The danger in this situation is that the gun will fire out of battery, which will basically cause a small uncontained explosion in your hand. No Fun.

Cosmod all up in that firing pin maybe, clean more. It must shake freely.
That's very probably the correct diagnosis, except that a TT33 firing pin won't "shake freely". You're thinking of an SKS. TT33's have a firing pin spring.

When I first got mine I took the firing pin out and the whole firing pin "bore" was totally gooped full of cosmo. I cleaned it all out with solvent (Varsol) along with every other part and have had zero problems with the gun. When you buy old military guns you MUST disassemble everything and clean thoroughly or bad things can happen.

I think that any time you get a new or new to you gun, you should strip and clean it.
I wholeheartedly agree, but (in my limited experience) used non-military guns aren't usually stuffed full of cosmoline. They're usually just grubby and in dire need of a good thorough clean and lube.

Nice to know, i have two and havent fired them yet.
I did strip and cleaned though but didnt take the firing pin out to clean.
Guess i have another job to do. ;)
Thanks for the heads up.

The last trip to the range I had the same thing happen with a 1911, it wasn't the guns fault it was mine. The recoil would cause me to squeeze off another round, with better trigger control the problem when away.

Problem continued after a in depth cleaning. It would fire one round fine then it fired two rounds with one trigger pull then it fired 5 rounds with the next trigger pull!!! Needless to say its now at the gun smith to be repaired.

Is the dealer paying for the repairs??? 'Cause that'd just SUCK if they sold you a broken unsafe gun and didn't offer to fix it for you.

I would be curious to hear what the gunsmith had to say as to what caused the problem... handing it over to a professional was the right thing to do. I'm no expert, but that gun didn't sound safe at all.
