Hi there.

SO.
Among other things, my current 'want list' includes a Tokarev,

I'd like it to have some milsurp aspect, and I dislike the "tokagypt" style, so the Norincos are out..

I've seen a few around, and Of course there's the usual one, russian, wartime made, but the only thing that holds me back is the cal
7.62x25 doesn't seem very common..
I don't mind having an unusual cal, but if it's so uncommon that I won't be able to find much ammo, I don't really want it..

Although there is the collector aspect, I still like to shoot my stuff,

That's why I'm looking at/for the yugo 9mm surplus ones, as they're still nice and old, but they'll share ammo with my other stuff, and I'll be able to pick up ammo easily..

Am I mistaken though?
is 7.62x25 available readily?
I didn't see any on ellwood epps' site, so that freaked me out a bit..

also, with pistols I only shoot lead loads, so i mean.. obscure is one thing, but available in lead is even more of an 'eek' factor I guess...

yeah.. what I could do is pick up a WWII tokarev in 7.62x25, not really shoot it, and find a yugo or other eastern bloc in 9mm, and shoot that..
they're so cheap I might as well do that right?

...wait why did I write this then..

yeah. 7.62x25..for clarification..rare or what?

try Marstar or lever arms, you can get 7.62x25 in the CRATE! thats surplus stuff, so clean accordingly. as far as modern stuff, it's around. you might have to ask for it, and it should cost about the same as 9mm (maby a smidge more). I understand you like the origional look of the toke, me too. you DO know that norinco makes one that looks that way right? and you also know that you can buy a barrel that allows you to shoot 9mm out of that same gun right? again, look at marstar, lever arms has a deal where you get the gun (in 7.62) and the barrel (9mm) and a bunch of ammo(look in the specials section)...
p.s. swapping barrels is super easy and can be done at the range with a pocket knife or screwdriver.
p.p.s. you can use the 7.62 mags for 9mm aswell, just knock them to the FRONT befor incerting in gun.
Cheers,
BCtrigger

oh NEAT! you can do 9mm with a barrel change!
IM SOLD wow .
thanks everyone! i'm extatic!

p.s.
Im sure this is a totally ridiculous question, but as for this barrel change situation.
does this apply to any tok?
so if I were to buy a WWII manufacture Tokarev, and a 9mm barrel, I could swap etc?

thanks again

It's a bit of work but if you reload you can get calibre conversion dies from RCBS and make 7.62 x 25 brass from .223 Rem brass.....and Sierra makes 85 grain bullets for the 7.62 x 25

I dont reload as of yet *(have a few dies, but no room to set up.. moving soon, ill get into it then)

Yeah when i get the tt33, i will definately try to 7.62x25 in it, but being corrosive, I'll probably avoid it for a while...
I just dislike the whole boiling water situation..annoying.

thanks for your help everyone!

Corrosive

Though it sure beats the water/windex/solvent/oil dance with an SKS or VZ using corrosive...the Nork 54 is damn easy to tear down and put together again and a kettleful of water does the trick in a small space :)

yeah.
like. i'm not totally adverse to corrosive ammo..
just a bit.

and really the MAIN issue is lead rounds
my range only allows lead. so 9mm lead vs finding 7.62x25 lead rounds ..
well. thar you go

Use the 7.62x25 at an outdoors range like Silverdale and the lead 9mm in your TO range. As far as corrosive ammunition out of the Tokarev goes, there is no problem as the barrel is chrome plated all around, at least the Norinco is. I regularly shoot my tok with Czech ammo and have even left it sitting dirty for a fortnight with no rust problems, just a very dirty barrel that washed clean with dish soap in the sink.

that's what I shall do.

actually, it's funny,
i checked out the specials section over at lever arms, and found the tokarev from norinco, with 2 mags (one 7.62x25, and one 9mm) and the 9mm barrel, for like 190 bucks..

i went to marstar and found just the 9mm barrel for 110 bucks..
so.
i know it's rather silly, but i'm getting the lever arms deal, sort of just for the barrel, since I'll be getting a milsurp Tok to put the barrel into.

I'll either keep or sell the Norinco Tok. we'll see.
probably just keep it.
