Tokarev firing pin retainer

While checking out my Tokarev tt33, was planning to take it out for a few rounds tmr. In the process of dry firing it I found the firing pin falling out, when I looked I found the retaining pin that goes through the slide on the floor. Was wondering what would be usable as a replacement, could a pin from hardware store work or does it have to be a specific type. Thanks.
 
The pin you need is a very specific part. It is a headed pin, split along its length and tapered at the "far" end to form its own retainer. Gross as it sounds, think of a phallus split lengthways.

You push it into place, compressing the two "prongs" and, when it gets to where it is supposed to be, the prongs spring outward, locking it in place. There is a special tool for removing this retainer. This tool can be made from an ordinary screwdriver or punch by using just the shaft and cutting it to a "V" configuration. The "V" compresses the split sides of the pin together, allowing it to start into its tunnel and be extracted from the other side with pliers.

When I wrecked the one in my Hungarian Tok, there were absolutely zero parts available. I put the firing-pin back in place and secured it with a soft-steel nail, cut off and filed smooth the protruding bits.

Looks awful but it has worked for the last 30 years and a pile of rounds.

Now that you can actually get the proper part, I suppose I should lay in a couple........
 
Thanks Smellie, that's all I needed to know. Right now there is to pin there at all so I'll make up something for the time being till I can get a proper pin.
 
Dragonbait, I usually use an empty case as a stopper for my firing pin when dry firing, lat night was a quick function yet to make sure everything worked properly as I haven't had this gun out in almost a year, and obviously was worth checking.
