Just took my new Tok to the range today and fired off 50 rounds of S&B 85 grs FMJ. I noticed that the primers on the spent casings were having a weird deformation and wondered if anyone knew about this or if I should be worried. It seems that the firing pin is hitting and then sliding a bit.

Comments?

YES... Looks like firing pin Spring is not working Right. Firing pin stays out when extraction-ejection begins, making mark on primer by dragging, Cleaning and/or replace firing spring, and check if firing pin is straight

I've seen this on TT-33s and CZ-52s. Was it spitting brass pretty far? I see some of the case mouths are dinged. Looks to me like your recoil spring is a bit used up, get a new one. Should fix the primer dragging issue. I hear it's usually caused by the old recoil spring not keeping the action closed just long enough. As it opens, it drags across the firing pin. Seen it happen with 1911s that are loaded too hot or have a weak recoil spring.

Generally not an issue, but it can sometimes break your firing pin.

Thanks ArtyMan. Have you ever disassembled the firing pin and spring and measured your spring? Do you reload the brass? Any issues when doing that?

Ive never disassembled the firing pin, Im not sure I even know how to be honest :p Right now Im just using surplus, my TT-33 destroys brass so Im not sure its worth reloading, I may just hunt for a 9mm bbl when the surplus dries up.

I found my brass.... about 7 lanes over to the right! Ive never seen anything kick brass as far as my TT firing surplus. Ive had quite a few cases eject in about 5 pieces too, never stopped the pistol from firing. I did unload and check for safeties sake, but the pistol ejected the junk and locked into battery with a fresh round, worked perfectly.

With the hammer down, does the tip of the firing pin protrude from the f/p hole? Had an aftermarket f/p with this condition that caused similar results. Shortened it and cured problem.
