ive got to dig mine out and give it an inventory. so far mine is a 6 port 1940 tula with svt-38 mag svt-38 trigger group, early style thin stock unrepaired/cracked and almost all Tula parts minus a mednogorsk upper heat sheild. Unfortunately it's been electropencil matched. Could be mostly original to the gun. It's neat because I thought the TG was a late model, when in fact it's earlier.

I just recently came across a "refurb" early style bayonet but aside from the Izzy marking on the blade cannot find anything else that would indicate who would of re worked it. It also does not properly sit and lock in on any of my SVT-40s since it has too much play in the locking mechanism (compared to some of my non refurbs) is this normal?

Rework from Poland. Not sure when and why it was done and if should fit the rifle or not. I guess ppl who have them could chime in regarding fitting.

I bought one from things military, I'm surprised it was refurbished in Poland not Russia but still a nice looking one nevertheless.

It fits my 1941 Podolsk SVT-40 perfectly, little play back and forth but I assume that's normal. It has the early upward cutting edge and the scabbard has the little dot at the end, with a obviously refurbished leather belt loop.

I have a 1941 Tula with rails, but no notch.
And its actually sitting in a 1945 AVT style stock with the sling hole.

New text revision - there were no "early SVT-40 mag", just 2 factories making two different types of SVT-38 magazines.

Recently bought a SVT 40 for a quite low price and would like an opinion about what I have. By the excellent work at the beginning of the thread I can tell that I have a 1942 Mednogorsk rifle (star and 1942 above it). This rifle does have the rail cuts but no sniper grove cut on the top of the receiver.
The S/N is ФВ 39xx (not real x's on the rifle but 2 other numbers)
Am I overlooking something here ? or do I have a rifle #8 from the above table: 10. Variations and their rarity.?
I would appreciate any thoughts.

You're right, what you have is #8 from the table. ФВ is known '42 sniper prefix and all '42 railed non-snipers have sniper prefixes.

Wow, that is an incredible article. I'm gonna wait until the kids and wife go down then pull mine out and compare/learn about my gun. I know its a Soviet refurb but I'm quite happy with that. $450 for a SWW semi was a pretty good deal.

Excellent resources posted in this thread. Does anyone have any more info about the bayonets? I know the market has been saturated with 'parade bayonets' and tons of misinformation on real vs fake.

I've gotten this one in a trade, serial stamped right on the blade which I haven't seen elsewhere.
