Hi there,
I just got a new SVT40 for my birthday today (im 17!) :D:D:D:D:D, and went out to shoot it, the grouping is great but its a bit off to the right. Its actually way off to the right and i need to move the front sight. Whats the best way make it go where i want it? punch and hammer? special tool?

Thanks,
Alex

PS. I'll try and get some pics of it before it gets dark outside. :D

If you're going with punch and hammer, use a piece of brass to avoid marring it too much. If you know what you're doing you can do it with metal, but there are a lot of ugly guns out there that someone hit the wrong way. Not only is it aesthetically horrible, but your resale will hurt too, if you ever sell.

P.S. I don't remember svt front sights, so drift and hammer may be completely wrong... just saying.

I use a small vise jaw to drift the front sight of my rifle using nut as spacer. This way i dont damage the sight and its a way more easy to fine tune. So if you can borrow one, this should work great.

And don't forget to dissassemble and clean out the gas system with water or windex to get rid of the corrosive salts.....

I unfortunately don't have an answer to your question, but thought I'd ask if the AK/SKS front sight tool that I got from Tradeex could work to adjust the front sight if it needed it (I haven't fired mine yet...ahhhh!)

Cheers,

Frank

It does work, pretty much the best way to ajust the windage/elevation on the front sight and also to unscrew the crossbolt on the stock.

Please do. I love the rifle. I poo poo on those who like that wimpy cartridge the 7.62 X 39... it's not even rimmed! Get a man's catridge I say! Gotta have a rim! Gotta have at least 50 mm of case length! LOL.

Very nice, later war model I believe judging from the front flash hider having only two big slits.

Mine was made in 1940 in Izhevsk and got the same muzzlebreak, these rifles were refurbished at some point:

The plum collored bolt, carrier and locking shoulder are a sign same for stock repair and the muzzle extension mentioned earlier.

I'm getting parts to repair mine and I'll finally be able to try a prototype rear sight for some accuracy test, it showed favorable right before the malfunction.
