Hey Do you guys know if the TT-33 will buff up Nice ?

I know my Bolt on my SKS did... Just like Chrome...

Just asking before I take it to the cloth wheel...

You would be better off not doing it. Unless its a repro or a Norc, messing with an original is an Act of Bubba and once earned, that title can not be dropped. Not to mention if you ever want to sell it, don't expect to get a collector price for it. But its your firearm so who am I to tell you different.

Its a 200$ refurb... So its worthless...

And the blueing is ghay and need to be re-done...

So thats why I was asking if it would turn out nice if I buffed it...

you cant bubba a non matching milsurp it was done for you with the elctropen and a welder... lol....

Hmm, I don't know Tucson, for me, $200 is not worthless - $0 is worthless ;)

I'd rather reblue it to bring it back to an original look rather than "pimped-out"... (or whatever would be the appropriate way to describe serious change in its look).

I think you are confusing Refurb with Restored.

Refurbs are done by the military, and all though not "original" still retain their history as the Refurb is a legit part of its career.

A restoration is a Bubba'd peice that was returned to "original" specs.

The Russian Refurb SKS for instance, are not "Original" but are still legit and permanently modifying them is still an act of Bubba.

Nice... So im officially bubba new cousin... I stripped my SKS bolt and buffed it to a mirror chrome finish :) And im in the process of stripping the cheap shelac Job...

Now to my Original question... will the TT-33 Metal Buff out nice ?

Ah, see, I think redoing the shellac on a Russian rifle is "maintenance".

I doubt the paint on the SKS bolt is official military instruction. The one I received had pain everywhere IN the bolt - little chance that being a good thing!

Ok, back on track, the TT. I bet almost any piece of metal can be worked on so that it will shine and look all nice. And right now, I suppose a shiny TT33 could sell for about $200, there's got to be someone in Canada who'd be willing to pay that. Same for a reblued one.

Not sure how that's going to evolve over the next 5, 10, 20 years... I hope I'll live to see!

I never intend to sell my guns... So i will give it a try... Worst outcome is I will re-blue it... No Big deal....

I also will make a new set of grips out of Bloodwood.... Should be interesting...

I believe there is a picture of one buffed up in the photo section.

Poor man's pistol is the thread I believe.

The hard part I hear is putting the sights on the side of the slide after it is polished :)

Polished carbon steel has nothing whatsoever to do with chrome. Its just polished steel. Nice thing is, it'll tarnish in time, there being no protective finish, and then it can be rebuffed. The cycle could go on for a long time.
I wonder where some nice pearl grips could be had?

I may have jumped the gun on calling you a Bubba. I will admit that If I would have got a Black Bolt SKS instead of a silver bolt, I would have stripped the paint off, Unless it was a non-issued, matching one.

Anyways, I imagine it can depend on the steel used. But like mentioned, will tarnish very quickly. If you polish it, take a picture right after, and wait a day, you will notice a pretty big difference, it will turn into a dull gray and progressively darken after that. Maybe try a high polish blue instead?

High polish blueing ? interesting I will look into it... I dont know much about that you have a link ? Maybee a High gloss Black would look even better...

Just spent my allowence on 2 40 Round SKS mags and 200$ worth of pimped out Mossberg 500 acessories...

So This progect will be on the backburner until next month... lol...

and dont worry LeeEnfieldNo.4_mk1 I would never alter any matching WWII colelctors item... I just Buy the cheap stuff and have fun with it...

A high polish blue is a gloss black. it would look pretty sweet. I would like to get a Nork 1911 and put a nice high polish finish on it.

So where do I go to find this stuff ?

You could do it yourself with a home bluing job. But if you want a real nice finish, a Pro job is the better bet. Most gun stores carry a bluing agent in some shape or form. Canadian Tire even carries it, but I would not expect a good finish with it. Look in the gunsmithing forum, there are a few threads on finishes.

I am not a gunsmith so my word is not the best.
