Tokarev TT-33 ordered from Kelly's Sporting Goods

I have a SMG. If I had the proper gizmo, the stripper clips would be handy for filling the mags. I am guessing the strippers were for the SMGs. No use for a pistol, where a soldier would typically have a mag in the gun and a spare mag in the holster.

These clips are used for Sa. 23 / Sa. 24 / Sa. 25 / Sa. 26 submachine guns
the device is machined on to the frame of receiver and has a holder for mag to be clipped on. Then the stripper clip is placed against the holder and cartridges are rammed in to the mag with a thumb. Pretty neat idea to load mags fast.
However tok mags will have to be loaded one by one.

Hmmm, need the lead core for my range...wonder how consistant this mix would be or if i could end up with all steel.

I have a number of pistols plus one SMG in 7.62x25, so decided to buy another case of ammo. Marstar is selling a case of Sellier & Bellot milsurp. 2280 rounds to the case.

It arrived today. I was surprised to see that the case was a mixture of two different kinds of ammo. The brown boxes were steel cases with steel core bullets. The white boxes are brass cases and lead core bullets. That is, the case is a combination of indoor and outdoor ammo. Bonus!

If you shoot in a range with a steel backstop, you need lead core ammo. The steel core will pockmark the backstop.

I transferred the ammo to a pair of steel ammo cans. My case of ammo yielded about 60% lead core ammo.

I already had a couple cases of lead core ammo, and actually ordered the Marstar ammo so I would not have to waste my lead core ammo when shooting outside.

I received my Polish TT-33 from Kelly's and I must say I'm impressed with the over-all quality. I recall reading that some buyers had received pistols with some 'smoothing' or wear at the edge of the slide hold-open notch. My pistol had this as well. With constant upwards pressure on the slide-lock lever it will stay open, but not without. An empty mag works, but as soon as the mag is ejected the slide closes on its own. I can see how some buyers might be upset about this, but I see this imperfection as a minor inconveneience. I'll either take it to a welder or a machinist to fix it. People without access to thoe kinds of specialists would probably see it as a much bigger problem...

In any case, I'm happy to have received my new li'l pal.

I just ordered one of the unissued Polish ones from SFRC. Unfortunately it only comes with one mag, but oh well... Maybe I can make one out of sheet metal. They look pretty rudimentary.

Question: Do these ones come with a grotesque abomination of a safety lever added to them? If you look at Youtube videos about these guns, it seems a lot of the ones imported into the states have a safety added to comply with their import regulations. Do we have this horrifying mutilation going on in Canada?

We took my buddies new Polish Tokarev out today And it wouldn't even cycle new boxer S+B hardball ammo. Also tried some Czech 2280rd/ case found to be half corroded/ lots of misfires.Failure to feed with everything.Bullets hanging up on feed ramp.Ammo bought from Milarm in Edmonton. Will see what they will do about it tomorrow.Must have been stored in a swamp. In the meantime this Kelly Tokarev is a dud.Very weak main spring. He bought 3 so not sure about the other two.Didn't think to bring a spare mag to see if that's the culprit.I also bought one but I haven't shot yet.Harold

Could it be gummed up with cosmoline? I just cleaned one up for a friend and before cleaning/degreasing the slide wouldn't close all the way when released even with no round to chamber. Functioned fine after removing the cosmo and relubricating.

I do have the same problems with the one from Kellys (the gun was clean and I've tried 7 different mags, 2-3 jams each time.
so I've just bought another Polish Tok from my local store , this last one just works flawless :)

Great what do you do with the one that doesn't work? Can't just throw money at it till one works. Will talk to Kelly's.Harold

Where these Polish Toks were purchased is irelivent....they likely all came from the same storage facility......just remember, these pistols have been sitting untouched for 60 years and its no fault if the retailer if they're a little grumpy after all this time. If the pistols were test fired before shipping, people would have whined about their guns not being "new". Wes has already offered to replace any unsatisfactory pistols. I think Kelly's is being more that fair.My Tok arrived 100% if that means anything.

I think I might be try it later this summer, for now it is just lay down in my safe...., I will not put any $ in shipping or other on this gun, and just to clarify, I am not putting any fault on Kellys, it is just facts, it jams at each mags (shot 150 rounds), sooo this one is the less reliable Tokarev I have....

I own two TT-33s (1 polish) and have handled an additional two for friends, cleaned and test fired them. None has showed any of these problems. I guess I was lucky. Occasional stove pipping yes (mostly due to certain type of mil. surp. ammo), but nothing close to this.

tt-33 is such a simple gun that (in theory) it should be very easy to figure out whats wrong. I have near zero gunsmithing skills (fiddling yes, gunsmithing no) but I am somewhat confident that if I put some time into it, I could find the problem. Remember, it was designed for Russian peasants. They are tough little guns. Don't give up on them so fast.

Take a look at it and post some pictures here. There are some very knowledgeable people here.
