Tokarev TT-33 Russian frame + Chinese slide feeding issues?

Hi all,

I have a somewhat frankensteinized Tokarev TT-33 that seems to combine a Russian frame, a Chinese slide (but with a Russian extractor group), and the hammer group + firing pin and spring from Marstar "not sure which model it fits" as I was told over the phone. Oh, and I have no idea about the origin of the barrel, other than it is standard 7,62x25 one.

As a result I now have a pistol that shoots fine (or as fine as Tokarevs go) and accurately, but has ejection issues (the empty case ejected fine while unfired rounds were hitting something on the hammer group preventing the slide from fully opening unless extractor was manually disengaged), which I fixed, and feeding issues, which I have yet to fix.

The trouble is that the rounds sit a tiny bit too low and bump into the lower portion on the barrel (or/and frame) without chambering properly. Even when I manually push the mag as far as in as it would go (there is some 1/16-1/8" of play there), it would only successfully chamber if the mag has 1-3 rounds, with the odds progressively decreasing the more rounds you load.

I could of course try and grind / polish the feeding ramp on the barrel or/and frame (I've seen people on youtube do this) but before I do this is there perhaps a sucker mistake that I am making and not seeing?

Also is there a way to decrease that play in the magazine while fully inserted? I'd prefer it to be firmly locked in the topmost position. Again I could of course slap an extra mag follower with spring that would connect to the frame, but is there a "canonically correct" way to fix that? Mig-weld a bit of extra metal on the mag latch?

Thanks!

Does the mag belong to the lower or upper? Do you have any other mags available? I'd see if I can mess with the lips of the mag a bit to change the angle the cartridge feeds at...

I have played with frankesteining TT-33 but more for caliber conversion to 9mm and found the mag is most important...

Neither - two mags were bought separately from either marstar or intersurplus (can't remember).
I tried messing with the follower plate but this has predictably only affected the behaviour if only one round was in the mag.

On another field strip, I seem to have located the misfit between the barrel and the frame ramp, let's see if I can grind it away.
Another question: is there any way I can remove some excessive play in the grips? Cosmetic but kinds pisses me off. Would hate to have to use hot glue...

It's the feed lips you may want to try messing with. As they open up, it changes the angle of the cartridge _as it is fed_. Try this article which gives a good overview. https://blog.roninsgrips.com/adjust...zine-feed-lips-its-easier-than-you-may-think/

(disclaimer I did not do this for a TT so I may be way off. It worked great on a 1911)

Try thin cardboard cutouts under the grips.

Are not the feed lips incorporated in the two rails that extend from the front of the hammer group? Feed isn't controlled by the magazine lips, but by these. All the magazine feed lips do is retain the cartridges in the magazine. Are the rounds making contact with the feed rails?

(Polish gun) but you can see the mag feed lips between the rails... so maybe sometimes? Since theophys said the trigger pack is not original to either upper or lower, maybe in his case they are interfering?

Fixed. Took some gentle dremeling of the barrel where it meets the feed ramp on the frame.
Let's see how it will perform at the range.

And confirmed that this long-suffering TT now shoots fine. (Okay, as fine as I can get it to shoot given its miserable sight picture and my infrequent range trips.)
