I am inheriting this pistol. It was a bring back from the Korean war. It appears that it has not been fired or fired very little. I know that these are probably very numerous. The only info I can find is that it is a Chinese pistol type 51 in 7.62 X 25mm caliber (registration says 8mm). A letter explaining the provenance is coming with it. Can anyone add any info regarding the pistol? Other than the lack of a grip safety and being a little smaller...it looks like a 1911. TKS Dave

It shouldn't have a safety at all - no thumb lever either. The design is really neat, based on Browning's pre-1911 designs. There are some really good resources on the web with regard to taking it apart etc, but it's pretty straight forward Browning stuff, barrel bushing (watch the spring it's huge) then slide stop, then slide. The sear/hammer set up lifts out as a unit. The good news is that ammo is pretty much the same cost as .22 right now. It should be a Type 54 though, not a 51. The current ammo that's kicking around is corrosive, so clean accordingly (hot soapy water everywhere, then dry and WD40, then GREASE not high tech stuff) I have a Chinesse surplus Tok and it's great fun.
PS the mil spec ones are worlds better in fit/finish accuracy than the Norinco stuff with the tacked on safety and you'll be surprised at the snap you get from that little round.

if you want to shoot it a lot, you could /should look into the 9mm "conversion" for it- in the modern ones sold by lever/marstar and all the rest the "conversion" consists of a 9mm barrel- that's it

Thanks Ian.....for a military pistol it has an ultra highly polished high quality blue finish. Grips are plastic or similar with a star in the middle. It has a small circle with a triangle in it impressed on the frame and the serial number is followed by the date 1948. I will get some ammo and shoot it. Dave

Enjoy it...a fun blaster to be sure and if you have an actual military model, the trigger etc. may be better than a Norinco special.

They are neat guns. I have one with both barrels. 7.62x25 and also 9mm.
As noted. you can get a 9mm barrel & you are good to go. My mags feed the 9mm okay but some mags are fussy.

2 cautions.
Be careful taking off the grips. They have a tendency to break.
Also, make sure the clip on the right side that holds the slide stop is pushed all the way forward before firing.

Other than that have fun & enjoy it. They are a good, strong design.
