Tokarev vs P38?

I'd go for a brand new Nork NP22 (SIG 226 clone) in 9mm with the same Walther P1/P38 budget, forget the surplus pistols that can be a headache when a part is broken

P38/P1
9mm would be the best choice.

You should consider the TT33 later down the road as it sure is fun.
Wouldn't want your only gun requiring some specialty ammo that isnt always available.

Normally I would, but student budget says no :(

So far yall have not pushed me to either side of the fence, still not sure what to do.

Get the Tokarev. Accurate and will never let you down. Ammo is cheap and by the time the supply dries up you'll have enough money to get something else.

BTW its 2280 rounds for 350@ lever arms...

not 1000 for 370.

so it is cheaper while theres surplus out, so your going to have to stockpile it..

if not it will run dry and you can't do jack#### with it, other than getting a 9mm replacement barrel.

Are you set on getting a surplus gun? why not buy something in 9mm or 22 used?

i picked up a minty ruger p345 in 45 AUTO for 375 shipped...

This is good advice, get the newer one with the wings on the locking block, although on your budget, you won't be shooting much 9mm anyways, save your brass, get a used singestage press and start learning how to reload.

I solved this issue by buying a Tokagypt with both 9mm and x25 barrels/mags. Now I blaze away with 9mm reloads while I wait for the promised surplus 7.62x25 to come (and be available in my province so shipping doesn't kill any savings). I've had enough taste of the x25 to say that if I *had* to buy one or the other I would definitely go with the x25. So much more fun than puny old 9mm.

Trying to decide between these two for a first center fire pistol.

Finally finished my first year of post-secondary, so this summer I will be getting into pistols.
A norc M93 will be my first purchase probably later this week as that way I have a good starter + cheap to shoot pistol.

But after that, im really tossing around the tok vs p38.
Tok can be had for $200 (seen tok + 1000 rounds for 370), where as the P38's(post war) can be had for $300

Tok ammo can be had for pretty cheap milsurp but when that supply runs out again, 9mm appears to be cheaper.

The 7.62x25TT seems like a pretty neat round, where as the tokarev is pretty ugly gun and im told not too comfortable to hold.

On the flip side, I think the P38's looks freeking awesome, and look like they would fit the hand much better.

Side note, looking at the p38's the grips are molded for right hand shooters, are there any left hand grips out there?

Actually they are not molded for right handed shooters ,that little piece of

plastic grip bump is there so that a left handed shooter doesn't push the

slide stop up while shooting. Actually there are a left handed shooters

dream (they eject to the left).
