Too damn hot to hunt!!

I was out yesterday for our small game opener. Looking for grouse and woodcock. Had three grouse flushes but I couldn't see a dam thing, too much cover for any really good shooting opportunities. The dogs were overheating, had to hunt near water because there is no way I could carry enough for them, they went throiugh the two bottles I carry in the first 30 minutes! And it was raining all day too, you would normally think that would keep you cool, but it was hot and humid...yuk!

I wonder how the elk season here in Ontario is going?

Supposed to bein the 30's here today.

Having a rare day off today I was hoping to get a bit of hunting but after being outside all Saturday I think I'll putz around with the muzzleloader a bit.

On the upside, free breakfast at my parents place this morning.

Bring on the bacon!!!! :)

That's funny, that water never slowed me down,;)

But yes, it is starting to recede a bit.Thank goodness my spot hasn't flooded out.

Although my deer movement is down, the bears are sure seeming to enjoy the spot.

I've been out a half dozen times or so with the bow. There has been deer coming out every night and feeding right by the stand. They are coming out a bit too late for my liking as I like to have a bit of tracking light. I've got a big 5X5 that has made a couple of appearances as well. Please don't any one tell them that muzzle loader starts soon;). I've had deer standing broadside 60 yards or less at least a dozen times in plenty of muzzle loader light.

The heat doesn't seem to be affecting their pattern much. But you all know that Murphy's law say they'll dissapear as soon as they see me coming with a long gun.

BTW KT is Gardner road still flooded after this dry spell. I was up there in Aug for a look around and had a bit of a surprise when I came over the hill.

My spots are still dry as well. This year there didn't seem to be a lot going on so I found a few spots close to town. ( Saves on fuel ). The one good thing with the flooded road is the raod warrior patrol will have to wait for freeze up. The first guy may have a surprise if the ice isn't thick enough:D

27c high and 12c low temp here...No reason to stop hunting, but it does take some pre-hunt ( for cooler space) planning and the disapline to NOT shoot if you can't get the animal out and to a cooler in short order...I bagged a 6x5 bull elk on friday and had it in the cooler in less than 3 hours.

Got an amazing total of one rabbit Saturday and I had to go into the bog to stir him up.
Seen four deer, two of which were pretty close. One at twenty and another at about 70 yards.
That was it............

But I did get alot of fresh air and exercise.

it was around 25c pretty much all weekend in Quebec for deer hunting... I didnt see much deer action but I did see a big gull moose with a huge rack...

We cut our Suffield elk hunt short and came home yesterday because of the heat. We saw many elk along the river, but given the heat, we didn't feel that we could get the meat to our truck and to a cool location before it spoiled. It was 33 to 34 degrees for the past few days in the hunting area.

Brutal hunting weather. We fly out this saturday for moose, sure hope a cooldown is in the forecast for next week!

Where do you fly into?

Last weekend we headed out to moose camp. On Saturday it was 27 above. Mainly just suntanned.
