Too Light a Load?

Howdy.

I mentioned that my Trooper is hitting approximately 14 inches above center and I am at the end of the height adjustment on the rear sight.

The front sight checks out when compared to the specs in the Kuhnhausen Colt D.A. book.

Could it be that I am using too light a load to sight in my Trooper?

(I've been using 3.5 gr. of W231 behind a 158 gr. LSWC)

Should I be using a more full powered load?

Thanks as always.

Your load is right in the middle of the data with .38 Spl brass, and should give you about 800 fps. Perhaps a taller front sight is in order.

What range are you shooting at, and how long is your barrel? What other loads have you tired with this gun, and how have they printed? At normal handgun velocities, 14" high seems excessive.

Shoot groups from 5 yards in 5 yard incriments, and see where things get out of hand.

Edited to add . . .
Try removing the rear sight and clean out the recess to ensure that there is not a build-up of mung underneath it preventing it's full travel. Also ensure that the vertical adjustment screw is not damaged
