Too many bears.

not seeing much black bear sign around here since hunting season started. A little south of me where the berries did better seems to have much more sign. Up north where I moose hunt we usually see the odd evidence of grizzly around but I do the late hunts and usually the bears are denning up by then. This year though..... on my recent hunt. Everywhere I went I was coming across black bear singles and sows with cubs leaving tracks in the fresh snow. In several areas , fresh grizzly tracks and some right over top of the black bear tracks as the grizzlies were obviously hunting them. It was vastly more sign that I am used to seeing from either species of bear in that area. In fact I have never seen black bear tracks there before in past years at the time of year. Grizzly occasionally but this year , loads of sign. Major increase in wolf sign too..... the buggers were everywhere and we even saw one but I couldn;t set up fast enough to get a shot.
Pressure from predators was so high in the area the moose were staying in the thick steep stuff and despite the late rut being active, we heard only one cow call early one morning and bulls were not responding like they usually do to the call. One area we have taken several moose had no signs of moose at all whereas past years the trees along the cut edge would be thrashed by rutting bulls. Lots of wolf and grizzly tracks near that backwoods swamp but very little moose sign.
Time to bring back the BC grizzly hunt and put a province wide bounty on wolves.
